Welcome to Light Fields is less of a “game” and more of a VR experience that gently picks you up, places you inside a living photograph, and says: “Go ahead. Look around. Try not to question reality too loudly.” You basically stand in these captured scenes and your brain immediately starts buffering: * “Is this a video?” * “Is this 3D?” * “Why does it feel like I can step forward into it but also… I shouldn’t?” It’s like being trapped inside a high-tech postcard where the only objective is **awe** and the only enemy is **your urge to lean on imaginary furniture**. The best part is how it makes you act. You’ll find yourself doing tiny side-to-side head movements like a confused pigeon because you’re trying to “see the depth” from every angle. I was in full scientist mode for a solid minute, except my research method was: *wiggle head, whisper “yo,” repeat.* It’s also weirdly relaxing. No jump scares, no stress, just vibes. Instead of being a game, Welcome to Light Fields is a software application that shows 3D images in VR. Yep, that's it, this is a glorified photo viewer. That Google somehow thinks is a "game". Did you ever look at a photo, and then say "Wow, what a great game I just played!!!"? You don't? Yeah. Thanks Google. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop.
