About Wild Bastards

From the veteran team behind Void Bastards and Card Hunter, Wild Bastards has you travel from planet to planet to recruit, manage and gun sling with a team of 13 outlaws, each of whom has their own weaponry, special power, and growth tree. On planets, you’ll wrangle loot and start showdowns that are then played out in intense, bite-sized shootouts.

The Wild Bastards were the most deadly gang in the galaxy until a posse from the puritanical magnate Jebediah Chaste eliminated one outlaw after another. Faced with their own mortality, the two remaining members have teamed up with the Drifter, a mysterious sentient spacecraft, to find and resurrect the dead gang members as they flee to the mythical Homestead.

Intense Showdowns

Prove you’re the ultimate gunslinger by blasting an array of enemies in bullet-flying shootouts.

Tactical FPS Combat

Use your wits to overcome crafty enemies that utilize cover, flank you, and employ a huge variety of special moves from teleportation to homing poisonous quills.

13 Outlaws to Play

Rebuild a gang of 13 outlaws, each with their own unique weapon, stunt, personality, relationships, and ability tree.

Build & Maintain Relationships

The gang know each other well, but that doesn’t mean they like each other. It’s your job to manage their dynamic relationships, but good luck getting feuding outlaws to ride together.

Keep The Gang Thriving

Accumulate resources to heal injured gang members, level up characters, improve relationships, and more.

Strategize for Victory

Evaluate each planet’s terrain, enemies, and traits before selecting which gang members you want to land there. Collect items, level up, and use special locations carefully to turn the odds in your favor!

An Ever-Changing, Lawless Galaxy

Roam the procedurally-generated galactic sectors and planets with varying parameters such as gravity, terrain features, weather, and more.

Challenge Mode

After completing the main campaign, a challenge mode unlocks to offer a sequence of challenge sectors with increasingly difficult levels and mutators to modify the play experience.

A shallow, empty feeling game. I really enjoyed the previous game, Void Bastards, so I grabbed this in a sale thinking it would be worth it. It was not. They removed all the style, substance, strategy and story from the first game and created this mess.

Initially, I was lukewarm on Wild Bastards. The narrative felt a bit meh and the game veered on easy on Normal difficulty. These combined made the experience be a bit repetitive and cardboard-y. But the excellent audiovisual style and the colorful characters kept me going until the end. Was going to agree with another reviewer that it was not as good as Void Bastards. But then, on a whim, I decided to do the challenges. And immediately the game experience changed; Having a limited amount of Bastards (which are effectively weapons with a different HP bar attached that you can switch between) to perform the challenges made things more tactical, and the map movement more relevant. Once the difficulty was upped, and you had to think, the game clicked. Inspired, I did the max difficulty, perma-death-ish mode on (which was also interesting, since it's not necessarily permadeath in a traditional sense. If you go down, you lose access to the Bastard, until you get an item to revive them. You only lose when you lose everyone simultaneously), and it was tense, exciting and tactical. I had to rely on weird combos if I lost too many Bastards. If I had something to complain, the Co…

Being a fan of Void Bastards I of course had to try Wild Bastards. After finishing the campaign I can say it is not like Void Bastards, but it has it's own charms. In the beginning I always compared Wild B. to Void B. and found it lacking. The combat was tough, but I felt like I didn't make progress. Moving from Planet to Planet and unlocking a few modifications and Aces, only to lose thos modifications at the end of the Sector made me feel like I was stuck in a hamsterwheel. I stopped playing there for a while, but later came back to the game as I want to finish what I paid for. And the game did actually change. I don't know when, but I noticed over time that I was having more and more fun with the game and sometimes even more so than with Void Bastards. The reason seems to be that over time the Aces that you collect really do change how the Bastards feel to play. Instead of having just different weapons, the Bastards becomes specialists of certain kinds of combat or against certain enemies. While also becoming stronger in general. While at the start I felt like I was always at a disadvantage, later on it felt more like a shooting gallery. And that wasn't a bad thing at all! T…
