About Witching Stone

Witching Stone combines elements of puzzle games, roguelites and deckbuilders! Incrementally improve your spellbook, and find patterns on a unique puzzle grid, to battle deeper and deeper into the dungeon!

In combat you draw a path across the stone board, and where it passes over the requirements for your spells, they will be cast in order. While there is no time pressure, enemies will fight back! Attacking you not only with damage and harmful status effects, but also affecting your spells and stone grid.

As you progress, you upgrade with new spells, new enchantments for those spells, and increases to your stamina or casting ability. Build the perfect spell book! And fight past monsters and bosses, deeper into the procedurally generated dungeons.

This is a fresh take on the roguelite genre. Instead of a deck, you have a spellbook. You start with 2 spells and can go up to 6. They all start as available - no shuffling and drawing cards required. There is a gem grid that corresponds to the costs required to cast the spells. Connect the gems in the right sequences, and you cast the spell. The tutorial is pretty good, although there are a lot of mechanics at play, and it's sometimes difficult to figure out what is going to happen. The tooltips are quite good, but still sometimes it's hard to understand who (you or your opponent) will be affected by a spell. As you learn the mechanics on both sides, the gameplay becomes smoother. The spells light up when you're going to cast them, and the gem sequences also appear below your character. The placement is weird because you're staring at your spellbook, not looking below your character, so it's not easily noticed. Might be better placed somewhere inside the spellbook. As you click on the gems, it "highlights" the path, but the colors are sometimes difficult to differentiate from the regular board (the unselected gems). You can undo your selection one gem at a time with…6 found this helpful
Witching Stone is a cute pixel drawn match based roguelike. The novelty wore off a little quickly and it seems a bit easy once you figure out what's what, but it's worth trying.2 found this helpful
easy to learn, satisfying gameplay. i like the art style.1 found this helpful
Solid game. Not super flashy but I enjoy the matching mechanic. Enough for a fun few hours.1 found this helpful
My goodness this is a good time. It will give you an itch you never knew you had, and keep you coming back for more.
It's a roguelite with some gem-matching mechanics. Building synergy and launching 6 spells with 5 matches can be very fun and satisfying. That is not every experience, however, such is the nature of roguelites where the difficulty scales crazy fast and the brutality of the randomness adds to the loss count and playtime. Instead of banging my head against a wall trying to make the starting character work on a high enough difficulty to advance more unlocks, I will simply say I got my money's worth and call it here.
