WTC : Recruitment Day

3/10 WTC : Recruitment day is a side story to the WTC series with a confusing story, nonsensical achievements, and often poor grammar. My takeaway: Visual novels are my jam so I was actually pretty excited to try WTC : Recruitment Day and when I finally finished the story with all the achievements I was so extremely disappointed with the quality of the game! The character models must be drawn by different artists because none of them look like they belong in the same game, the story made no sense to me despite reading and playing it several times, and the humor is so bizarre that I spent more time trying to figure out what they meant rather than actually enjoying myself. You play a key part in a robbery story that turns into much more as you uncover the inner workings of this world’s lore. I hadn’t played the previous games, maybe I would’ve enjoyed this title more if I did, but it claims to be a standalone story and playing the other games wasn't necessary to understand what was happening. WTC : Recruitment Day is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which presents the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book was slapped together with the godawfully bad RenPy Visual Novel/E-Book construction kit, so just like no professional writing took place here, no professional game development took place either, it's just a product of filling out templates in the construction kit. As with all the Chichster pollution/garbage, there's a woefully badly written story about secret societies and a bunch of construction kit generated anime characters used to desperately try to distract anyone from seeing any of the writing (which is craptastic). Short and funny. However going through the first game is recommended otherwise the context of the plot would be unclear.

WTC: Recruitment Day is one of WTC's "short stories". Only very limited play time - a filler story between the main stories. Higher production value than usual with some animations and voice acting! WTC Recruitment Day has the highest production value of any WTC VN I've played so far. Hopefully a sign of things to come? Very short story but nice filler between the big ones.
