Ziggurat 3D Chess

I knew that when I had to sign a EULA just to play a Chess game, I was in for a bad time. Ziggurat 3D chess is yet another case of a developer thinking they have the "solution" to Chess, that somehow Chess was an imperfect game and thus needed to be changed in order to become popular. At least I assume that's the line of thinking here. Ziggurat changes the rules and gameplay of Chess in two main ways. First, in addition to the standard 8x8, 32 piece chess game, additional grids of decreasing size are added "above" the standard game board. To make these extra boards useful, the developer invented their own pieces as well, with different rules and capabilities, that both permit movement between boards, and of course also fundamentally break the game. Of course it turns out this was a "solution" nobody wanted, and while a few (15) people tried out the game at launch (according to SteamDB), that number dropped sharply to the point there's nobody at all bothering with this game, in fact, I was the first person to launch the game in over a month. [h1] How do you go Wrong with 3d Chess?[/h1] No really, how? I get this is like a useless review, and that this game is going to only fit a small niche of players, but let's be real here for a moment; The issue with this game is the hardware. The game doesn't require you to use a VR Set but I don't know how you're supposed to move any piece or do anything without one. The angles are not easy to see, they are not easy to understand, depth perception a ♥♥♥♥♥, then the controls on just keyboard don't feel smooth. As if the controls were themselves made out of the same god-forsaken material the floor is made out of, clunky, jagged, uneven. Yet a nice little Windows 98 window popped up and in your face to show you what moves you can do. Not that the moves can be understood, as the colour coordination does not help with understanding depth or movement or anything really. Игра "Ziggurat 3D Chess" – это глоток свежего воздуха для любителей шахмат. Переход в трехмерное пространство не просто красивый ход, он значительно усложняет тактику и стратегию. Нужно учитывать не только горизонтальные и вертикальные перемещения, но и потенциальные угрозы, скрытые на разных уровнях пирамиды. Сначала кажется сложным, но интуитивно понятный интерфейс и плавное вращение камеры позволяют быстро освоиться. Возможность играть как против AI с настраиваемой сложностью, так и с другими игроками онлайн, делает игру очень реиграбельной. Понравилась система рангов и таблица лидеров, которые стимулируют к совершенствованию навыков. Единственный незначительный минус – иногда хотелось бы более подробного обучения для тех, кто только начинает знакомиться с 3D шахматами. В остальном - отлично реализованная концепция. Рекомендую всем, кто ищет новые вызовы в классической игре!
