AstroScaper

I've been having a tremendous time in AstroScaper. Biiiiig chill game that still asks you to put your brain to work. It's kind of like freeform legos with a scoring system. No aliens blasting your colony, no zombies to gobble your citizens' brains, no tragic collapses of the air scrubbers because you failed to secure the supply chain for polymers. I love games with big pressure, but that's part of the sweet relief of this game - build within the ebb and flow of your resources to construct your way to little victories. And it's got quite a bit of play you can put into it. The last session I was playing I actually had a hard time pulling away from it after I won; it was so rad and pretty that I just kept going and going, building a bigger score and slapping on some score multipliers in really interesting ways. Give it a shot if you want to relax with great aesthetics and great engagement without dipping too far into either big thinking or sleepy coziness. Amazing balance, amazing devs, amazing game.

truly enjoyable experience. the small space actually makes it more fun, you gotta think a while about where stuff goes instead of just spamming buildings everywhere. resources are simple enough so that you're not stressing over min maxing everything, you just chill and watch your little colony grow. looks great too, clean sci-fi style without feeling cold or empty. if you liked dorfromantik or islander, you are definitely gonna like astroscaper - great choice if you want something to zone out to

This game was an insta-buy once I saw the devs list it on the reddit page for Islander's: New Shores, a game I still adore to this day (even after 120+ hours). It's visually appealing (vibes mixed of Sierra's Outpost series with Cyberpunk designs), the music is cozy and "space-y", and it follows that similar path of watching your city grow across a barren landscape with just enough twists in it to keep it unique. I think having the resource elements is a good mix-up from the I:NS, adding just enough complexity to the gameplay loop without removing the relaxing vibe overall. Instead of just flat value as is, it helps indicate where your current city is lacking, which helps me personally not get so sidetracked with other things as I go along. Additionally, since the resource punishment's don't take away from the points you score, by the time I near the mid-end point of the game, I feel more free to just splurge and build whatever I want for aesthetics. That was a little more difficult to do with just the value score from I:NS, as negatives did take away from your score and just felt more "painful" to do.
