Tails Noir Preludes

The prequel of Tails Noir. Just as the main game had the name Backbone originally, this was previously called Tails: The Backbone Noir. The game is split into 16 chapters, equally divided among 4 different characters. 1. Clarissa Bloodworth Decent. Her chapters explain how she came to power and make clear of her agenda early on, unlike in the main game where she reveals her intent at the very last moment with no previous clues dropped at all. Also her chapters show the most diverse locations, feeling less repetitive. They still don't completely explain her character, for example we still don't know whether she's a genuine savior type or the change of management type, but the amount of care her story got in this prequel is adequate. 2. Howard Lotor The OG protag guy... And the most irrelevant part of this game. His plot here is about his college life and how he and Lucky were BFFs and had fun together. No conspiracy, no artifact, completely detached from the main plot. Who invited this kid into this prequel? Dude wasn't even invited at the start of the main game, he wasn't in the loop. There's no story that needs to be told, all they needed to do was establish how Larry and Howard…

An excellent compilation of vignettes that gives you a more intimate view into this exceptional worldbuilding. However, I was still left with more questions, and I can't help but feel like this game's content should have simply been integrated into the main Tails: Noir game. Both games' experiences would be amplified this way. I can't help but feel frustrated that I needed to purchase a second game in order to get just a BIT more context for the main story, and I am STILL left with many of the questions I had before. There are still things to unlock, still parts of the world I haven't seen and want to see. It makes me afraid that this developer is going to just keep giving the story to me in small snippets when they could have just provided one fully fleshed out game from the start. That doesn't make it less beautiful though. The writing in this is lovely, the atmosphere is perfect, the choices lead to only a couple different endings for each character but still felt meaningful along the way. I just wish I could purchase and experience one, fully complete Tails: Noir instead of having it portioned out.

If you haven't played [u] Tails Noir[/u], the first game from these developers, don't bother with this one, because it won't make much sense without knowing the story from the previous game. If you have played [u] Tails Noir[/u], this game feels more like DLC or content they didn't have time to include back then. It doesn't really feel like a standalone game. So, what's in it? The gameplay is mostly the same as in the previous game. There are a few separate mini-stories about characters from [u] Tails Noir[/u], showing different moments from their lives. The writing is still as good as in the first game, but it feels like they just put these stories together without turning them into a full-fledged story.

One of the best games of its kind i have ever played and criminally underrated
