About My life as a cat

"My life as a cat" is a relaxing, slow-paced visual novel about longing for something different than the modern society and searching back to nature. It has AI-generated oil paintings to illustrate the fully voiced and texted story as you progress through it according to your choices.

Will you have what it takes to survive out in the wilderness, or will you steer towards a not-so-favorable ending?

The story follows a man who lost his job and falls into depression. Instead of ending it all, he simply decides to become a cat. Compared to the typical visual novel experience, this one takes away almost all of the interactivity. There is no need to click to advance the story; it will do so automatically. You also cannot skip text because a voice reads the words on the screen. Although the voice has an accent, this only contributes to its charm. Another nice design choice was to show one sentence at a time rather than a wall of text. While you can see the complete text by clicking the button, you cannot skip ahead until the voice has finished reading the entire line. The tiny issue is that the text's speed does not exactly match the voice's speed, so you will read the text before the voice finishes. However, waiting for the slow voice will not upset slow readers. You steer the story by choosing between two options at various points. A single path takes only a few minutes, but since you can’t skip, each additional playthrough will force you wait through lines you’ve seen before. AI art is not edited, so it looks very “abstract”, especially with living things.

This game is interesting to say the least. The music is very calming. The backgrounds are pretty as well. One thing I want to mention, is that it is voiced by a non-native English speaker. So sometimes pronunciation and timing is off. There were a few misspellings in the first run-through I did. It has a very basic interface. Overall, a nice, calming game...with the choice of suicide very early on. lol
