Ebenezer and the Invisible World

Not ready for prime time. Bugs and clunkiness everywhere. There's a key remap option, but if you remap the keys, several game functions WILL NOT WORK at all. This also happens in a way where it just seems like you need to acquire another ability first... but you don't. Instead you'll wander around the map for ages wondering why you seem to be gated everywhere by the same stupid block puzzles that you can't interact with. Other than that, metroidvania style progression is OK, but the maps themselves are big and sparse and feel a little empty, and enemy balancing is not great. Walking is fine but movement feels clunky otherwise. Warp points seem to be few and far between. As for the writing and design... Dickens is overrated, but this game doesn't live up to him either way. Things feel very anachronistic, and not in an intentional way -- putting what appears to be an extremely milquetoast version of a half-hearted contemporary American protest (people just holding signs and standing around) into Victorian England, with heavy-handed attempts at making people talk in a way that feels "old." Sigh.

I'm at a loss for words

Underrated game. It's basically old-school Castlevania set in 19th century London with repentant Scrooge. Lots of variety in the types of attacks you can do once you befriend various "ghosts". Weapon variety and reach. So you can play with heavy blow, quicker light blow, or range. Lot of secret passages and hidden stuff. Slightly rough movement, but it really is a minor criticism as you won't notice it after you make some simple adjustments. Nothing to groundbreaking here but a fun game, suitable for Christmas season or any time. Suitable for Metroidvania fans. Probably an 8-10 hour game or so

Simple, Elegantly done. Very nice graphics. Music is good and unobtrusive. Honestly, I really enjoyed this game and it scratched a similar enough itch to Symphony of the Night, or any of the DS Castlevania games. Well worth the time and money.

I got pretty far in the game, but didnt beat it. I saw most everything you can do or see. You get the double jump late in game, which is a shame bc it was fun to use. The dash is delayed and slow. Movement overall was kinda lackluster. I did get the relic you can equip early on to make Ebeneezer move quicker. That is a must. Otherwise, default speed is way too slow for such large empty screens. Loved the background artwork and character portraits. Combat was pretty average with some bosses being way too easy and some being unfair and a drain on your health items. It’s fine. Get it on sale.

Wow, this game was great! I put this game on my wishlist because the premise just seemed so random but so awesome at the same time. A sequel to A Christmas Carol starring Ebenezer Scrooge in a metroidvania adventure? He attacks by smacking enemies with his cane?? Sign me up! The music is Christmasy and is pretty fine for ambience but the soundtrack doesn't really stand out. The gameplay is standard metroidvania fare. You could say that the entire game itself is average at best. It's not boring nor is it going to blow any minds. But that's fine. Not all games can be 10/10s and not all games are garbage. Some just exist because they can. What I will say is that the artwork is wonderful. The characters, their portraits, and even the final battle cutscene. Beautiful work that deserves to be displayed as a poster! I read some reviews that said that they had issues with the game crashing or bugging out. For the entirety of my 11+ hour adventure, I did not experience a single crash. The only bug I encountered was Ebenezer not dropping below the water even with the water breathing ring equipped, and the fix was to simply exit the room and reenter it.
