After finishing the game and getting both ending I can safely say I can't recommend this game, its final hours felt more like a chore than entertainment (I haven't even finished collecting everything when I usually do that in every metroidvania I play even if it's a bad one). First the good: - Cool story, albeit sometimes a bit difficult to follow. - Cool characters and main character, they have their own questlines (more of this on the bad) and they're all voiced (even if not every dialogue is voiced). - Good soundtrack, nothing too memorable but it fits the theme of the game. Now the bad: - Some of the gadgets you find have a % drop chance attached so you can have the worst luck ever and grind for an item for a whole hour without getting it (Metroidvanias aren't the genre for this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bro) - Combat is clunky as hell, you unlock modules and ranged/melee weapons but never in the whole game it felt like the combat flowed. You mostly stick to high dmg melee and shoot, but I didn't enjoy it much tbh. - The map is boring and a pain to walk through, teleports are few, since you can't tp to every save point only to some places. but these are on the worst possible spots in the …2 found this helpful
A light recommend. The game is pretty good, but can be a little too obtuse at times as far as knowing where to go, or later, how to get there (lots of hidden walls). Once you get a few movement upgrades its a lot more fun. Gorgeous graphics, wonderful soundtrack, reminds me of a Metroid game. A few bosses were super tough with slightly long run backs but the end was a little bit of a let down as far as "final boss". End game time is 11:181 found this helpful
Probably my Favourite game of all time. I love the story, the gameplay and expacially the artstyle its very fun to explore the world and finding and fighting new bosses
A good and atmospheric game with interesting gameplay held back by clunky movement and a few weird decisions. Cool things: 1. Story, atmosphere, narrative, music - the plot is cool, it's enjoyable to explore, talking to other people is fun, and the regions we explore are interesting, and the music that accompanies us creates a great atmosphere. 2. Exploration - enjoyable, lots of things to find. 3. Character development - leveling up, various modules, and various attacks make you feel like you're developing your character. 4. Skills - standard MV stuff (double jump, wall climb, etc.), but gaining new skills is fun. 5. These are really heavy spoilers, but what we learn in the true ending was really powerful and cool. Negatives: 1. Clunky movement - our heroine moves as if in slow motion, everything happens slowly, and all actions are performed like in underwater stages in other MVs (funnily enough, this game has an underwater stage where the character is twice as slow). 2. Some bosses - most of them It was relatively simple and accessible, and I could kill it in 1-3 tries, but I had huge problems with two of them. I Elsom, The Ogre i II Henriette Scuttle (The Changed …
I like the old school 2D Metroid style of atmosphere and gameplay even if I am not a diehard fan who has played every metroid, and a modernized version of metroid sounds really cool. I picked up the game when it came out, and bounced off it after a while. Picking it up again years later I realize why. Its not horrible but its lopsided, and unfortunately the bad has made it less than the sum of its parts for me. The good parts weren't worth powering through the tedious parts. It does lots of cool things, like the visuals, soundtrack and atmosphere. Having melee weapons in a metroid style game is also a cool touch, as is the overheat mechanic where shooting your gun heats up the barrel, making it fire slower, but using melee does more damage with higher barrel heat AND cools off the gun. Which is an interesting game loop. But the main issue is that the game is tedious too often. It has a lot of unnecessary Soulslike mechanics like leveling up, and running back to where you died to pick up your currency/exp, you also lose a bit of max HP when you die and it costs a tiny amount of currency to repair. Leveling up only has 3 stats, none of which really have "builds" I just split points…
Love it or hate it- there's jank and a little bit of a learning curve, with some hard difficulty sprinkled in here and there. There were moments where I yelled out loud about the game being BS or having BS enemies in certain places that didn't make sense, save rooms being absolutely nowhere to be found in whole biomes, and a few odd choices- but I found myself coming back over and over again and that speaks for itself. I tried twice to get into this game, the first time being so difficult that I got frustrated and quit. The next time, I followed the dev's suggestion on where to explore first and my experience was much smoother. This second time, I kept having a feeling like I was playing super metroid again for the first time, and that's a hard feeling to trigger for me in my old age. A solid entry in the metroidvania genre and with the help of a map online, I enjoyed the hell out of it. No bugs, no glitches, no crashes. 8/10
