Bound by Destiny

Upgrades feel pretty useful. I went back to a few earlier levels to get some extra money and it made the later ones less annoying.

[hr][/hr] [+] The “scenes” are decent, they have Live2D animations and are often presented in a manga panel format. Their only issue is that the tags are pretty limited. [+] The dungeon-management is fairly well done given the small scope of the game. You can place different monster units along the route, with tracks for both airborne units and land units, but larger units have to occupy both. Plus, each unit has different traits which can synergy with neighboring units. [+/-] The actual auto-runner gameplay is kind of obtuse. The heroine will automatically traverse the dungeon route and you need to manage your resources to perform a limited set of actions to try and stop her. I could never seem to stun her when it would actually be opportune, honestly I recommend just putting most of your money in upgrading yourself (the snake unit) and relying on the extra skill you get from that. [+/-] The game is pretty short so there's not that much story, but it does try it's best to flesh out the world and main characters in it's small runtime. [hr]…

I honestly had more fun with this than I expected. Took me a while to get used to the timing, but it started feeling pretty natural after playing for a bit. Also found out there's a patch for the hot content, which is nice.

Bound by Destiny takes an entertainingly different approach to the familiar fantasy story of a princess trapped by an evil creature. Instead of playing the heroic character trying to escape, the player assumes the role of the Viber Lord, an ancient snake god with a personal grudge against the Featherfine family. Developed by E.E.F. and published by Saikey Studios, the game combines RPG progression, defensive strategy, traps, monsters, and light simulation mechanics within a compact 2D adventure. Its strongest quality is this reversed perspective, allowing the player to become the obstacle that the traditional protagonist must overcome. The story follows Princess Mistynail Featherfine, who enters the forest while searching for magical stones. Her goal is to create a health-enhancing jewel as a birthday gift for her grandfather, but her seemingly innocent expedition ends when she encounters a mysterious snake. After being bitten and losing consciousness, Mistynail finds herself trapped in a dangerous situation orchestrated by the Viber Lord. The snake god was defeated by her ancestors and now sees the princess as both a means of restoring his former power and an opportunity for reve…

In a way, this reminds me of a reversed-tower defense, where you have to place units instead of towers. Gameplay is definitely unique!

Playing as the dungeon itself, instead of the main character? Wow, I did not expect that! I mean I saw the trailer, so I kinda got the idea, but when I saw it, it really amused me. So you basically upgrade the dungeon's strength by unlocking many kinds of monsters and placing them throughout the dungeon (there's a cap to the limit), and leveling up enemy attacks. This character, Mistynail was ambushed by a snake, basically the main villain Viber Lord, and now she has to pass through dungeons one after another to progress the story. (there's a decent story in there, but the good sauce is in the patch on the publisher's webpage, so try to get that, it's the proper way to play this game I think, not just the uooh scenes but the story too is expanded).
