About What Awaits, Aleksey?

Welcome, Aleksey!Your application has been approved. We trust that you will prove yourself worthy of your new position as a junior cryptology analyst. This is not just a job. This is Service to the Motherland! The OKO Cipher Bureau is counting on you! Our whole nation is counting on you! Each day, new evidence will arrive at your desk. Inside, you will find photographs, intercepted correspondence and wiretapes. From seemingly unrelated details, you must draw conclusions: who is who, which name belongs to which face, and what alias hides behind each person.Show them no mercy. They are subversive elements who, for reasons unknown, continue to undermine the achievements of our Republic!Stay vigilant: no one here will hold your hand. Every piece of information may prove equally important, and your role is to decrypt, analyze, and ultimately expose the enemies of the nation!
Every document is a piece of a larger puzzle. Photographs do not come with names, and the aliases described in reports are not directly connected to any faces. Some documents only begin to make sense several days later. Your task is to connect these clues and uncover who is really pulling the strings within the Opposition - and why.
Your desk is the center of the investigation. Evidence can be freely rotated, flipped over, examined, and interacted with - whether that means lighting a cigarette, handling documents, or rewinding magnetic tapes as many times as you need.
Intercepted correspondence never reveals everything directly. You will learn to operate special decoding machines that make evidence analysis easier - but never obvious.

What Awaits, Aleksey? is a compelling investigative puzzle game that combines Cold War-inspired political intrigue, cryptographic challenges, and psychological tension into a distinctive experience centered on information gathering and moral uncertainty. Developed and published by JKBC, the game transports players to a fictional communist republic during the 1970s, where government surveillance and ideological suspicion dominate everyday life. Rather than emphasizing combat or traditional adventure mechanics, it places players behind the desk of an intelligence analyst tasked with identifying individuals who may threaten the ruling government. Its intriguing premise, deliberate pacing, and interconnected mysteries make it particularly appealing to players who enjoy detective work that demands concentration and independent reasoning. The narrative follows Aleksey, a newly recruited cryptology analyst employed by the OKO Cipher Bureau. What initially appears to be a respectable opportunity to serve his country gradually reveals the disturbing responsibilities associated with state intelligence operations. Each working day introduces new documents, photographs, intercepted correspond…

First when I got the game, I wasn't sure about it. The tutorial could give you better expectations as to how you'll progress. The first time I played through, I felt confused and eventually gave up because it felt like things weren't going anywhere. I came back to it a while later, though, and realised that the pacing is meant to be stressful but doesn't make the game unplayable. There are some documents which are basically red herrings or that aren't really that important for figuring things out. Most of the identifications are pretty clear - the hardest part, honestly, is identifying the right pictures. Once I got it down, I loved it. It was satisfying at the end and finally getting identifications correct toward the end is such a sigh of relief. It's not Papers, Please, but it isn't really trying to be. The experience is different and you should expect it to be.

What Awaits, Aleksey? is a really cool investigation game that instantly reminded me of Papers, Please with its art style and general vibe. I really liked how the game actually makes you think—you have to pay attention, read through documents, and piece everything together yourself instead of just following simple objective markers. The atmosphere is great, and sorting through evidence and cracking codes never gets boring. If you enjoy smart detective games where you actually have to use your brain, this one is definitely worth playing.

Nice for someone who wants to challenge their attention span. Grab a external tool to make notes, the one in game is its worst flaw
