De-Void

De-void was a short and disappointing walking simulator adventure with potential that fell flat. Beautiful main character voice. Nice graphics with very detailed structures and ships. In chapter 1, I did not like that once you donned the helmet, everything went "foggy" with everything in textureless shades of gray and limited view distance. I could not find where to go. I wanted to reload last save except it only saved between chapters. So I lost 20 minutes and had to restart the game... twice as the same thing happened on second playthrough. Turns out there was an elevator switch I could not see. In chapter 2, unclear directions where to go. "Nearby, beyond the excavation site." I don't even know what the excavation site looked like and no map or sign either. I ended up wandering in a huge desert which didn't progress anything. There was nothing to do there beyond looking at derelict ships. Unable to save when I wanted aggravated the frustration because I didn't want to restart the chapter. The writing was good. I liked the logs, not so much the "entity" speaking that felt a bit obtuse and pretentious. Very lame ending, or lack thereof, that didn't really conclude or explain anyt…

Sure recommended for the fans of the Planet Ancyra quadrologie, even if you can get it for free, when having Solarix, what will give you access to Planet Ancyra Chronicles, where both games (Solarix and De-Void) are combined. For Solarix, it changes from an active stealth game to a walking sim, adding De-Void at the end, what keeps the same content. De-Void is a short walking sim, lasts up to three hours, for sure the most challenging part, so as gaining all achievments, is the desert run, where you must follow an unguided rotation through wrecked parts, so as collecting audio logs and interacting with corpses. Solarix is the same, but more on the needed stealth tactics, this in order to survive. De-Void is a slow-burn, atmosphere-first sci‑fi adventure that leans hard on mood and environmental storytelling. You explore a deserted facility, piece together what happened from logs and clues, and let the sound design and lonely vistas do most of the heavy lifting. De-void is a rough diamond - it creates a great atmosphere and I'd highly recommend to anyone who loves megastructure and scifi themed exploration/walking sim games. There are flaws - the story is surprisingly short and ends suddenly; I was left wishing there was more of the game. Some of the walking sections require a little too much walking as well. But the beautiful environments, evocative music and intriguing story still make this game well worth a playthrough. I hope the developer returns to this style of game in future!

A cool, atmospheric game, you really feel like a detective on an abandoned planet! A bit creepy at times, but it’s fun to figure out what actually happened here.
