About Viking: Battle for Asgard

✦ AI summary

Lead the warrior Skarin across a vast Viking world to stop the goddess Hel from unleashing Ragnarok and destroying Asgard in this brutal action epic. Command dragons, master devastating melee combat, and rally hundreds of dynamic warriors to your cause as you battle through Norse mythology brought to stunning life.

A fierce struggle is taking place within Asgard, the realm of the Norse Gods. The battle has escalated, spilling over to the mortal world of Midgard and now a Champion must be found, a Warrior than can sway this war that threatens the fate of Asgard and the Gods themselves.

The goddess Hel – daughter of Loki, Norse God of mischief, has been banished from the heavenly kingdom of Asgard for defying Odin’s rule. Angry at her fate, she seeks to release the ancient wolf-god Fenrir which legend tells will bring about Ragnarok - the apocalyptic battle that will destroy Asgard and the Gods. With her army of resurrected Viking warriors, Hel marches on the unsuspecting mortal realm of Midgard.

Odin’s daughter Freya, goddess of love and wisdom, is appointed the task of stopping Hel and defending the future of mankind. For her champion she chooses Skarin, a great but troubled young warrior, ignorant of the true reason for his favour with the Gods and thrust into the midst of their bitter war.

As Skarin, players will experience unparalleled battle scenes, leading the charge in a titanic clash between powerful gods and mere men. War on an unprecedented scale will rage across a beautifully realised Viking landscape.

A neat little Gem, the gameplay loop can be a lil repetitive but its all worth it for the large Scale battles at the end of chapters.

Good story and decent graphics for its age. Would recommend anyone with any love for Vikings in anyway give this game a try

The 'Aliens Colonial Marines' of Viking themed gaming. It isnt a brilliant game but, it is a fun game! Like really fun. Just like ACM, if you go into this game with a neutral perspective you will be pleasantly surprised. I like it so much that I went and found it for the PS3 too :D Oddly... I did the same with ACM. So, Ive completed both versions of both average games simply because they are fun. You can sit back with a cuppa, relax and do some deading! 7.5/10 (the extra half is because the music is nice)

It's an old but neat game revolving around huge battles with spectacular, over-the-top combat against hordes of enemies. It's a port from consoles, technically not very well made, but good enough that I was able to get through the game without too much complaining. The graphics — while outdated from today's perspective — looked great back then. The story is predictable and follows the typical struggle of humans against powerful gods. Nothing extraordinary, but worth checking out — nowadays, we don't get this type of game anymore.

It's hard to recommend this game considering the way it was ported. Let me list the problems I myself encountered... 1)The least critical is the sound, the dialog is extremely quite and many sound effects have wrong volume which cannot be adjust, though it could be a linux issue. 2)Weird af controller mappings. 3)The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ performance is horrendous, you are locked to 30 fps which drop to like 12 when entering a different zone (dark/light). I would not finish this game unless I stumbled upon a post about using lossless scaling to up this game's smoothness. On windows it's easy, on linux it's also very much possible to get it to work, I highly recommend it. Those are the most glaring problems with the port. The game itself is fine. I wanted an old janky game about vikings, I got it. The story is simple, the fighting is cool but doesn't have that much depth and is definitely half baked. Graphics are aight I guess. One cool thing though is no load times when dying or teleporting, really liked that transition. Like I said: you like old games? go for it, but be wary of technical issues with the game.
