I played Expeditions: Conquistador some time ago, so I kind of expected this game to be more or less like that one but with Vikings, and it kind of is. But it's also a much better game that improved upon almost every aspect in the original. The systems feel familiar and they resemble the systems in Conquistador, but they're tweaked to be simpler to use while having somewhat more variety and/or depth. The camp mechanic, combat, companion loyalty based on choices, and traveling the overworld are all recognizable from the previous game but made significantly better. It also feels much more like an actual RPG than the previous game in the way it approaches the story, the character progression, equipping gear and visiting locations like the towns, and cities tied to the main quest but that also include a fair amount of NPC's or situation that trigger side quests. Same thing for your companions, who now have their own quests too. And being a more recent game, it looks way better than Conquistador. I also like that it includes some fantastic elements, but they're approached in a way that is unclear whether something supernatural happened or not. Every situation can be reasonably explai…5 found this helpful
What a great game - a true CRPG, great story, great systems, balance is rock solid. If you like BG1-3, NWN, Icewind Dale, and games of that ilk, give it a try and you won't be disappointed. Solid 8/10. Looking forward to trying Expeditions: Rome next!1 found this helpful
This is my first introduction to the Expeditions series. I'm about 3 hours in as I write this, and I'm really enjoying it so far. It is definitely showing it's age a bit, but it still holds up well for the most part. POSITIVES: Story is solid, establishing relationships between characters early and giving you reasons to care about them. The choices that you make really do matter, affecting your relationships with other characters and what options are available to you later on. The combat is similar to many other turn-based tactics games, but done well. Each type of character feels pretty unique. Graphically, it looks better than you'd expect for a game of its age. The music does a good job of setting the tone for different situations. On... and the monologue from the opening cutscene was really great. Really got me excited to fire up the game. It has difficulty settings to customize what your experience will be like. And for people like me who aren't as young as they used to be, there are options to upscale the UI for bigger text on your screen. NEGATIVES: Although not a big deal to me, the voice acting is pretty minimal... so you have to read a lot. Probably my biggest issue…1 found this helpful
This game is super fun and highly overlooked, if you enjoy Wasteland, DOS or any CRPG this game is for you! I ignored the negative reviews and it was the right call, lean into this game and you'll have a blast. There are guides for any issue you face while playing and it was worth every dollar I spent (got it on sale, but still I'd have payed full price) Can't wait to play Expeditions Rome next!
Just too janky and awkward. I really gave it a shot but it really just wasn't fun.
Game launches to a black screen and nothing else. I have redownloaded it, verified the files, whitelisted it in my AV, everything the devs have said to do. Still nothing. I had this launch properly for a good long while before I stopped playing it a couple years ago. So the devs have left those of us afflicted with this problem with less than a paper weight. Round of applause everyone...
