About Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition

✦ AI summary

Wield the Combat Cross and master light and dark magic to battle supernatural forces across a shattered world as Gabriel Belmont, a holy knight seeking to save his murdered wife's soul and stop the Lords of Shadow from destroying mankind. This dark reimagining of Castlevania blends brutal combat against colossal titans, environmental puzzles, and platforming through gothic landscapes, now complete with two bonus DLC chapters and enhanced graphics at 60fps.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition is the complete edition of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a dark and vivid new re-imagining of the Castlevania mythology. It is the end of days and ungodly powers isolate the Earth. The world's alliance with the heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force - the mysterious Lords of Shadow. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil wreak chaos and death upon the living.

Gabriel Belmont is a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by the evil forces of darkness and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead she realizes the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny and hopefully salvation for the world.

Reverie – DLC
Reverie marks a return to the game’s climactic castle setting as Gabriel seeks to assist the recently-slain vampire Queen’s hand maiden. The download spans three stages, and offers a breath-taking twist to the game’s plot

Resurrection – DLC
Resurrection, which itself follows on from the completed Reverie, lays bare the fate of both Gabriel and the Belmont clan. Gabriel must battle an evil demon known only as ‘The Forgotten One’ that has broken loose of its ancient chains.

These new DLC levels provides a stunning finale to KONAMI’s epic tale of death, betrayal and redemption – with ‘The Forgotten One’ intent on destroying mankind, and only Gabriel standing between it and its goal...

Frustrating time waster of a game. Combat is okay but the enemies discourage most of your kit and moves. To give one example guard breakers are all at the end of combos - but doing a combo on a guarding enemy will get you hit far before you get to a guard breaker, even the shortest ones. Most enemies are programmed to punish you for being in the air too long, so you'll generally be forced to stomp down or use your helmet chop equivalent immediately. Area attacks have little to no hit stun on all but the first weakest enemy so using them is highly discouraged and will be punished quickly by enemies in spite of the skill list suggesting you use them for crowd control. I'm not sure why the chain kick from the air even exists - most enemies upper cut you for doing it even though it can only be used on those enemies. A lot of your kit is interesting but barely any of it works - the magic system does work quite well, and to some extent so does the focus system. But they are in service of a game that is railroading you into basic attacks and standing still and dodging. I'm confused why this is a generally well regarded game. Everything about it is just irritating. Then there's the…

Graphics: Dated Gameplay: Dated Enjoyable: Yes As an old man gamer who loves the post Symphony of the Night Castlevanias and the classic God of War games, this game is perfect for someone like me. Compared to modern 3D action/adventure games it may be frustrating due to lack of camera angle control, but you get used to it and it makes it feel more like a Castlevania than a 3D Castlevania should.

I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. Fun, especially if on sale. The one pitfall is the camera is janky in a couple places. Especially in some boss fight. There are times you are completely off screen and getting pummeled but you can see to move. That can get really frustrating. However until my current fight with the Titan I was enjoying it. I'm sure I'll get past this eventually, but be prepared to deal with the camera issue from time to time and tight QTE that you'll have to repeat a couple times to hit the sweet spot and get the animation to work.

Positive because the story is well written and engaging, as are the graphics but as for the gameplay... "Hey guys! Lets program a game where the player is worthless until Chapter 4 and then tell them to just go back and replay the first four chapters! Also why have fun boss fights when we can do Shadow of the Colossus like bosses that just loop attacks the player cant punish." -Some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot. I don't mind difficult, but legit every single move being worthless (as you get hit out of them) or Gabriel not having a single I-frame (except when dodging, and enemies have the MW2 tele-knife distance) means you'll get stun-locked until death or until you have a sliver of health left where some off screen n'wah throws dust at you killing you instantly. Also restarting levels doesn't reset health, nor does progression, which always leaves you at 50% current max. ♥♥♥♥ dude, just fix your ♥♥♥♥ or don't present it to the class. Its 16 years old and RE1 classic is made with more design forethought than this. I assume it was due to the popularity of GoW (original trilogy) and DMC (original trilogy) but BOTH of those games have well crafted and enjoyable gameplay, unlike this ♥♥♥♥ filled so…
