This Is the Police

I give up. At the beginning of the game the story says something along the lines of "Jack doesn't deal with the mafia". And i though: "OK, thats cool. Lets go for a good-guy playthrough". I don't do deals with the mafia and i don't follow through on City Halls racist and sexist requests. Day 11 starts with a gunshot and then the text "Jack is dead". That was it for my playthrough, starting over is my only option... I get that the game is trying to go for the "You can't only be good or only be bad" sort of gameplay. But it should allow you to. Punish a good player in other ways like killing the police officers or giving me less money. Just ending the playthrough abruptly is such a quit-moment for me. From what iv'e heard a bad-guy playthrough isn't possible either. So you basically have to figure out how the developer wants you to play and stick to that. Don't try to go your own way. A bit of a shame because in its core this is a very cozy game. Responding to calls, deciding who and how many to send, investigating crimes is a nice gameplay loop. Challenging emergency management video game. The usual stuff, you’re in charge of a police team and have to deploy them across various incidents and investigations but with the caveat that you are caught up in the city’s power struggles. The game doesn’t pull any punches and it’s relatively easy to fail but it’s entertaining to juggle the different factions whilst still trying to do your job. Disclaimer: unlike other similar games, the story takes the spotlight and there are no good guys here, it’s practically impossible to finish the game without dabbling in corruption, striking deals with shady characters or playing dirty.

After all these years, I finally played the first This Is the Police from beginning to its canonical ending. I absolutely loved it. Honestly, I’d love to see this game adapted into a TV series someday...

Honestly, with the quality of the game, I would even recommend buying - and now it is on aggressive discount. If you are a lover of stories with choices-matter, this is a must-buy.
