Cliff Empire

I bought this game quite some time ago, at least Pre-covid. I played it for 30 something hours and then put it down for some reason. I recently decided to pick it up again and try to beat it and... it was the middest experience that ever midded. Luckily there are several guides or I get the feeling that I wouldn't have gotten much farther than I did before. Counterintuitive and poorly explained menus and game concepts abound. Tech seem decoupled from progress sometimes - you'll be waiting a few hours to research something that you NEED to progress but there was no telegraphing its necessity. Usually in a city game if you're waiting for a construction or a tech to complete you can pass the time micromanaging a little but if you do that, you're just as likely to break your eligibility for the NEXT tech or building. I spent a fair amount of time playing this game playing games on my phone, afraid that if I touched anything I would make the next step take even longer. The hardest barriers were Prestige. Holy Moley, don't get me started. Keeping everyone that happy was a slog. Have fun demolishing half your cliffs to build industry that's only for citizen happiness to raise prestig…

Cool game with interesting concept. Sort of post apocalyptic world where you have tiny habitable area where you can build (cliff). You need to balance your population and production of various recourses. And there is a lot of recourses required for big city. And you actually have not 1 but 3 city's that can trade with each other. Each city have their own pros and cons like soil fertility, ore deposits etc. So economy is complex and interesting. And there are also events so your perfect economy could fail because you was not prepared to some cataclysm.

Fun game once you get the hang of it, I definitely needed to look at guides because it's not very intuitive or you go broke very quick. It's a unique type of city builder where you have limited space and need to balance people, food, needs, power etc pretty heavily. As you progress there are pretty big milestones you unlock that really change a lot of aspects, making things more efficient or new challenges.

Simple and straightforward without being overwhelming or too minimalist in terms of content and challenge
