About Voltage High Society

✦ AI summary

Punch your way through a decaying prison island in this first-person Metroidvania where your bare fists and salvaged body upgrades are the only keys to unlocking new areas and abilities. Melee-focused combat rewards aggression and positioning while a dense, hand-crafted world reveals secrets and shortcuts as your grotesque, body-horror powers evolve.

A FIRST-PERSON METROIDVANIA. NO GUNS. JUST YOUR FISTS.

You wake up on a decaying prison island overrun by cybernetic monsters. No weapons. No allies. You start with nothing but your fists and whatever you can rip out of the island itself. Every ability you gain is a key that opens a new part of the world.Voltage High Society is a Metroidvania built from the ground up in first person. Locked doors, ability gates, backtracking, shortcuts, secrets, and boss fights that test everything you've learned. Not a shooter with a map. A Metroidvania that happens to put you inside the body horror.

PUNCH FIRST. UPGRADE LATER.

Combat starts with your bare hands. Every new weapon and ability you find changes how you fight and where you can go. Melee-focused first-person combat rewards aggression and positioning, not camping behind cover.

5 LARGE AREAS. ONE CONNECTED WORLD.

Nemo Ultra is a dense, hand-crafted island built for exploration. Dead ends become shortcuts. Locked passages open when you find the right ability. Every zone connects, and the map rewards players who pay attention. Inspired by Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Escape from New York.

YOUR BODY IS YOUR PROGRESSION

New abilities are not just combat upgrades. They're keys to the world. Every power you gain reopens areas you've already explored, revealing hidden routes and secrets you missed the first time through.

BODY HORROR MEETS RETRO GRIT

PS1-era retro aesthetics meet modern lighting and creature design. Dark, oppressive corridors open into neon-lit arenas. The monsters are grotesque, the atmosphere is thick, and the world feels like a place that existed long before you arrived.

Really really really solid and fascinatingly unique indie game. I fell in love with the overall vibe this game is going for and the beautiful rustic/metallic environment. The combat in this game is also pretty unique (for me at least, cant say which other game plays like this) you're basically punching enemies in a somewhat rythm to defeat them. Which also brings us to the biggest flaw this game has, there is no real rythm and the combat is sadly sadly lackluster. I feel like there are not enough different enemies that make use of what the combat was going for, it was also most of the time pretty janky and i just spammed my strongest punch. But that's pretty much all negative i have to say, the world, theme, music, vibe and just everything else basically was incredible and well worth the purchase and experience! can recommend if you can bare a little jank in the combat.

Fun game. The art style and general setting set a great atmosphere. The combat, while not anything fancy, was still fun enough for the game length. Highlight of the game for me is the Mantis, even if I never got killed by it, I loved the way it's AI was designed for a horror monster. Genuinely great idea. My only complaint is that I feel like the barrels (and equivalent) could be more consistent in giving the player what they need in regards to health and energy, having to sit there punching a barrel 4-9 times just for a chance at the energy or health I need then needing to do it more because I need more of said energy or health felt a bit off. this was remedied when you get the ball as it makes barrel procs multiple drops but early game when you don't have the ball it feels iffy.

This game explores its concept quite well. While I wouldn't really say its a metroidvania for how linear it is, it is certainly a wonderful experience to crawl through the metal plague. Much of the world feels very alive, and all around is rarely dull. Some of the locations are a good test to see if you are stupid like me and incapable of finding the right way to go, but I still managed to find one of the 2 hidden area well enough, Don't know how to get all the upgrades in one run if thats even possible, I was 300ish short by the end even with never taking off the loot ring

I have never played metroidvanias as they are mostly 2d and I prefer first-person games. So this is my first and it rocks. Map design and exploration are like the best I've tried in years, sucks me in and I honestly can't stop playing it. There was a place where I was stuck but the developer in discussions showed a solution and from then it has been smooth sailing so far (I wasn't able to find the item to progress so it was not a bug but my lack of attention). Combat is honestly so-so and could really use more time in the oven but other than that it's really good, dripping with atmosphere and you should at least try the demo. Will update the review once I complete the game.

Pretty fun and interesting mechanics. I will say, the flashlight is so dim that I feel like I'm basically just navigating by touching the walls. Maybe that's intentional, so if so then I'd say it worked well, but it does get a bit tiring after a while.
