Lots of explosions. Lots of your little ship getting blown up/smashed/crushed like the tin can that it is. Lots of "wait, we're trying to fly a spaceship through what?" Lots of that sinking feeling when you realize that the maneuver you're supposed to pull off to get to the next level isn't even remotely close to being a sane thing to do in a spaceship. Lots of that awesome feeling when you manage to pull it off anyway, followed by despair when the levels abandon any pretense of being dangerous but essentially neutral and start actively trying to eat your ship. Sometimes, lots of spiders. In short, it's excellent.

Retrobooster is something as rare as a modern cave-flyer game. Cave-flyers were made popular by indie game developers from Finland in the eraly 1990's with numerous titles in the genre. If you played the game Subterrania on Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, you will love this game. This game makes everything right down to the last detail. The physics engine is what really puts this game on the map though. Physics affect everything from ship handeling to shots bouncing off walls and enemies falling down when shot. It's a bloody hard game because the physics engine makes it hard to navigate the ship without crashing into walls. It's also a very detailed game environment with tons of details that makes every map seem different even though it's mostly caves. Even the smoke from the booster rockets reacts to physics and bend around objects. Put short it's a hard, beautiful, detailed, fun game that works regardless if your play session is 5 minutes or hours.

Tags: Casual - Object Routes & Flinger Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Clumsy momentum management in Lunar Lander Style. Decent 3D caves and little sprites. Lacks field of vision to play effectively. Vicious cycle between boredom and losing momentum control. This is one of those precision navigation oriented object routing game, in which you must carefuly and manually send gas to thrusters and avoid colliding in the walls of a tunnel. The game added friendly and hostile little sprites but their AI is dumb as bricks, they are hard to find, as the levels are massive and they quickly get out of screen bounds. Whenever they do show up on your screen you will have very limited time to shoot them down before you have to get distracted by managing your thrusters not to crash into them. Load times are also surprisingly slow. Conclusion: I did not feel the hook or the addictiveness that must have been present with this formula when it first came ou in the eighties. This genre did not age well, you do not see a lot of games made for it and there is probably a reason why. I am removing retrobooster and placing it into archive permanently for declutter. Th…

Retrobooster, developed and published by Really Slick, is a demanding and uncompromising indie space shooter that draws heavily from classic cave-flying and arcade action games while carving out a distinctive identity through its physics-driven flight model and brutal level design. From the very beginning, it establishes itself as a title that values mastery over accessibility, rewarding players who are willing to learn its systems through repetition, failure, and gradual improvement. Rather than guiding players gently into its mechanics, Retrobooster throws them directly into hostile environments where every mistake carries immediate consequences. The defining feature of Retrobooster is its flight physics. Your ship is governed by momentum, inertia, and thrust in a way that makes movement feel tangible and weighty. Forward thrust, reverse thrust, and fine directional control all interact constantly with the environment, forcing players to think ahead rather than react impulsively. Tight caverns, shifting hazards, and sudden enemy ambushes demand precise control, and the slightest miscalculation can send your ship crashing into walls or drifting helplessly into danger. This emphas…
