I honestly didn't think I would like this game at all. And after my first playthrough, where I didn't know what the hell was going on, I thought for sure I would be asking for a refund. However, I kept playing and soon I found myself mysteriously reaching a zen like state. No kidding. At first this game seems stressful, because you're not used to the controls and it's easy to lose control of the ball quickly. Soon you get the hang of being able to direct the ball almost anywhere you want to go. Then the game becomes a calm, soothing experience. The in-game music really adds to that. It's simple, yet effective (gameplay + visuals + music = zen) I really only have two complaints. My first complaint is that I wish there was a way to listen to my own music from within the game. The in-game music is not bad, but I'd like to at least have the option to listen to my own music. My second critique is the price point, especially the normal price, it's a little high for the amount of content. Also, pvp version needs to come to the VR version if you're normally charging $9.99. Sale price Rating 6/10 when $3.59 USD or less

Cloudrift is a game that proves a creative idea can carry an entire experience when executed with confidence. Developed and published by friendlyOctopus, this indie arcade title takes a simple concept—staying alive on a floating cloud—and transforms it into an entertaining challenge built around movement, timing, and unpredictability. Released during a period when many independent games experimented with unusual mechanics, Cloudrift stands out by embracing chaos rather than resisting it. It doesn't attempt to tell a grand story or overwhelm players with complicated systems. Instead, it invites them into a colorful world where survival depends entirely on adapting to an environment that never stops changing. The heart of the game lies in its procedural cloud system. Players are placed atop a living platform that constantly reshapes itself beneath their feet, creating an experience where familiarity is impossible. The terrain bends and shifts unexpectedly, forcing quick decisions as players scramble to maintain their footing. To make matters even more unpredictable, various items fall from above, introducing effects that can dramatically alter the flow of a match. Some provide advan…

[tldr] Cloudrift is a nice little meditative game based on skill and endurance, with a minimalist approach to it's game design and beautiful lovely and lively visuals. You are a ball on an infinitely scrolling low res height map grid, the pillars of it's structure on which you stand, or roll rather. You can jump over holes and if you fall the game ends, giving you a best time and score. Cloudrift becomes more interesting once you die a few times and manage to stay up for some minutes. Meanwhile as the clock counts up to your new record survival time, or to your premature but inevitable demise, little power ups and items that modify the motion, speed and dynamics of the game and the terrain being generated fall from the sky. As all of these game play dynamics coalesce you are treated to some beautiful visuals that also change over time. At times these visuals can consist of very bright primary and secondary colors, or psychedelic colors with undulating pillars, and just some really beautiful relaxing gradations over time. The endless moving landscapes and animated colors work great together and feels very right for the game. Critiquing the VR aspect of this, it is a perfect game …

I played in VR and adored it. Relaxing and beautiful. The soundtrack is worth the purchase price on it's own. Online multiplayer for VR would be fun.
