About Zero Reflex : Black Eye Edition

Do you have what it takes?

Zero Reflex : Black Eye Edition is a psychedelic fast-paced game with a simple aim: you have 30 seconds to avoid deadly projectiles from a sadistic eyeball. EYE will do everything to kill you, and it includes rockets, shurikens, giant snakes, robotic tentacles and more! Surviving brings you to the next challenge, but don’t take it lightly: if you die, EYE will send you back to the previous level(s)!

Why “Black Eye Edition”? Because the challenge of this version will punch you in the face really hard!

Features

 • A new Psychedelic mode for a mind-expanding visual experience
 • 5 new levels wild deadly mechanics for a total of 25 unique environments
 • A Training mode to muscle up your game before challenging the EYE
 • 4 difficulty levels: the further you go, the harder you are punished for your mistakes

History

Zero Reflex is a little game project with minimalistic and clear design but with very addictive and frustrating gameplay. Do you have what it takes? Fun Fact: the initial code name of the project was The Reflexx 2. Due to similarities with many other published games the team decided to go with the name "Eye Will Survive!" which is a pun title inspired by the song "I will survive" by Gloria Gaynor, which after the soft launch was again renamed into Zero Reflex.
Circle around the evil eye while it tries to take you down. Simple visuals. Gameplay is all about pressing left and right. Overall pretty shallow experience.
The 25 environments times 30 second left-right mobile-tier controls of avoiding bullets means you can beat the game in 12 min and 30 seconds. Every time you lose, you have to add 30 seconds to it because you have to play the previous level if you take three hits during those 30 seconds. Losing becomes unlikely as soon as you realize the safe spots of the particular level and where the level hazards are and what they look like. Some color choices are questionable. It would be better if the danger tiles and projectiles was color-coded with a designated color such as purple or highlighted. The psychedelic mode seems to be about having a trippy moving pattern in the background. It is okay as a simple casual game. At least it is not as annoying as Super Hexagon that people compare this one against. As a fair disclosure, I would not care about this game in the slightest unless I got it for like 10 cents from a keyshop to a record a playthrough of it. Considering it has a below-average MRRP (Manuifacturer's Recommended Retail Price),

A nice little "Avoid-em-up" where all the player can do is move clockwise or counterclockwise around the evil eye, with the objective of surviving 30 seconds before moving on to the following stage. Each stage has different obstacles and bullets, often made deliberately harder to spot among background shapes, even more if you decide to take a trip with the Psychedelic Mode. It's very simple, and mistakes are severely punished: at first you can take three hits and are sent back one level if you fail, but further modes award less resistance and push back even more. While such a mechanic certainly helps getting better, it can also easily become very annoying with the more difficult stages, also because they are always played in random order so you can never know if you may be lucky to get some easier ones in the middle, or not. Screenshots absolutely can't give the visuals justice, it may look like just random shapes and colors in those stills but they are really elegant in motion. The snakes and clock stages are among my favourites but my absolute favourite is the one with six multi-jointed legs sprouting from the eye. I wish there were more "power-ups" than just the temporary shie…
