Combat System

As Empress your troops will follow your lead on the battlefield. You can surround the enemy forces or direct your army’s strength to the heart of the action. Battle by battle the number of your troops will grow and you will be able to upgrade your army. Configure your elite troops including:

Warriors: These are your base elite troops and can be changed to the other three classes.
Ninjas: Your fastest fighters move quickly and can attack by throwing a shuriken.

Avaris 2 is a very hectic mass-battle game where you only directly control your character and indirectly control a small group, while hundreds or thousands of other warriors fight on your side under AI control. It *also* has absolutely tiny sprites that make it hard to see what's going on and a kind of terrible control scheme, both of which add to the overall feeling that you don't really have all that much to do with the success or failure of your attempt to take back control of the Avaris Empire. Ultimately I'm just going to thumbs-down this one because I was just mashing "start new mission" constantly towards the end of my single playthrough and hoping the random battle generator would put their general in a position where he died and not put my king in a position where he died, with not much else influencing the outcome of most maps. Wouldn't really call that fun.

Avaris 2 is a retro pixel "RTS" game with some minor RPG elements. While the battles can be amusingly large, the gameplay itself is very repetitive and not all that exciting. Win battles and territory, and spend money upgrading your army and your personal equipment. The retro pixel graphics are really offputting, and the resolution is fixed so there's no proper HD or UHD support. Gameplay is quite weak as you drag your commander and guards around the map with your mouse. It's also important to understand the context of this game in the marketplace. There's a whopping almost $9 price tag for what feels like a tablet game. For half that price you can get an up to date RPG, RTS, even one of the Total War games on sale. Compared to any of those, this retro pixel mess looks like a bit of a joke. I can't recommend it.

After finishing this game, I have no idea why it's sitting at a "Mixed" reception... I absolutely loved my time with it and plan to go back for more playthroughs in the future

too confusing, doesn't even run well because it's so old lol

This game requires minimal mechanics as an action game, and still gives you pleasure for playing a strategy game.  Should I protect my king, or should I assassinate the enemy king?  Most of the time I choose the latter option for my pleasure. This game is a simplified version of "Dynasty Warriors", but you should not play overaggressive.  Even with the strongest items, your character is vulnerable when surrounded with enemies. I am positive about this game, but I agree that this game may not be enjoyable for everyone because of the following reasons. - outdated, or nostalgic graphic - repetitive, or sophisticated gameplay - expensive - no atmosphere with ninjas, mummies, mages in the same battleground
