-Quick Review- The Dungeon Power is a 3d dungeon runner... is that a genre? It's part 3d platformer, part "Finish the level as fast as possible". -Detailed breakdown review- Gameplay: I highly suggest using a controller in this game, the controls are actually pretty solid, at times your character's momentum feels a bit weird, but you can get the hang of it after a while. I learned pretty quickly that this game (much like other difficult 2d and 3d platformers) have a tendency to frustrate me quickly... but much like well put together 2d platforms: being able to make some type of progress makes all the difference for me. Careful on loading your game, I accidenly ended up deleting my save file because it doesn't ask confirmation on weather I'd like to delete or not. I was just absentmindedly clicking the save file to load in, and BAM, I lost it. Thankfully once you learn a level in the game, you KNOW that level. So catching back up to my save was remarkably easier then I expected. ..but not salt-less of course. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1313685371 Conclusion: If you still want a bit of a more solid idea for wh…7 found this helpful
Review copy provided by developer via Curator Connect What I thought was going to be a 3D dungeon crawler turned out to be a speedrunning game in disguise. The Dungeon Power pits your bulbous little gremlin-thing against timed levels of moving platforms, spikes, collapsing floors, and other deadly traps you’ve seen a million times before. Movement is nice and responsive, and you actually pick up momentum from moving platforms which allows you to pull off some pretty neat moves once you master controlling it. However, it’s still just a plotless speedrunning game, the kind of thing that exists as a bonus mode for a more ambitious, complete title. Plus it runs into that classic problem of levels eventually getting several minutes long and one misstep sending you all the way back to the start. I’m not a fan of that frustration in better games, so I’m definitely not going to tolerate it here. The Dungeon Power is an Unreal Engine based 3D isometric/top down view console-esque platformer where you control some colourful blobs and bounce around a series of dungeon textured low poly count 3D platformer levels, with timing obstacles and so on. Nothing remarkable in the generic plot, generic gameplay, and lacklustre implementation. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. Another problem here is that the game wasn't …3 found this helpful
When you jump forward, you're unable to stop mid-air which leads to overjumping most of the time, as you need to jump earlier than what feels natural. Also, there are some levels early on with platforms that are nearly pitch black, which float above a pitch black pit.. so it's hard to even see where you need to go. The "difficulty" is all in visuals and controls..1 found this helpful
