Purchase Date:
22nd of December 2019 - 22/12/2019
Purchase Value:
0.39€
PROS & CONS Review:
PROS: + Easy to learn. CONS: - Frustrating. - Basic visual art. - Incorrect hitboxes. - Very hard to 100% Steam achievements.
Text Review:
It's easy to learn but very hard to complete. I know the game is supposed to be difficult as it's shown in the tags, but it becomes very frustrating after level 10. The visual art is very basic. I also noticed that sometimes the hitboxes do not correspond with the player/obstacle textures. This line is for the achievement hunters. It's hard to 100% Steam achievements, I just went to level 10 and gave up completely.
Recommendation:
Most people will say it's a skill issue and I completely agree, difficult retro platformers were never my cup of tea. I don't recommend it because there are better options in the same categories within the Steam store. Although I recommend it if you enjoy the pain process of these kind of video games. It's quick short levels and very addictive. It's great for a simple to play, simple platformer. Even if I am only 30 minutes in, I can definitely lose myself trying to get to level 50 for the achievements alone. Great job.

I'm still in disbelief that I cleared lvl 49 and I can't feel my thumb.

Dungeon Escape, developed and published by Roenko Games, is a tightly constructed 2D precision platformer that embraces retro design philosophy with unapologetic intensity. From the outset, the game establishes itself as a reflex-driven challenge, placing players inside trap-laden dungeon chambers where survival depends entirely on timing, memorization, and mechanical consistency. There is little narrative framing or cinematic buildup; instead, the experience drops you directly into a gauntlet of hazards, signaling that the journey is less about story and more about skill mastery. The visual presentation leans heavily into minimalist pixel art, favoring clarity over ornamental detail. Spikes, saw blades, crumbling platforms, and patrolling enemies are immediately readable, which is essential in a game where split-second decisions determine success or failure. The dungeon environments are compact and often claustrophobic, with single-screen layouts that feel almost puzzle-like in their construction. Each room functions as a contained challenge box, demanding careful observation before committing to movement. While the art style does not evolve dramatically across stages, its consis…

It's really a hard question, if I can recommend this game. Without a doubt it deserves respect for being so well made. There are levels inside, which seem impossible to complete, but that's not the case! Like you are able to see in my achievements I've compleated every level here and the developer itself offers youtube videos, which are showing how to succeed even the most toughest ones here. The music fits very well to this game, because it's beat suits to the many jumps you are going to do there. But I can't recommend this game to everyone. It can become frustrating, needs a lot of patience and for myself I've died over 1700 times (in the end of the game you see the amounts of your deaths). I don't remember if there's some kind of introduction story available, but I do know that you won't see any kind of story in the end of the game. And maybe important to mention as well: I didn't find a single bug in this game here! So yes, I can recommend this game, but only to the gamers who are fans of this kind of genre!
