About I was here
Regardless of whether you love to travel but do not have the time or opportunity for it, or if you are an experienced traveller and want to test your savvy, we hope our new game will bring you fun. “I Was Here” features more than 500 unique photos from more than 60 cities, interesting and little known facts about them, 3 difficulty levels and awesome music.
All photos in the game were shot by our friend who travels a lot around Europe, Russia and the Caucasus region in general. Though not a professional photographer or traveller, after several years of wandering the world, he developed a set of photos with an unusual perspective that delivers his own take on places both obscure and well-known. This game is a showcase of some of his works. Besides this, “I Was Here” also dishes plenty of amazing and interesting facts about places you might not know.
Gameplay comprises a meditative contemplation of photos in an attempt to guess the city they were taken in. Clues involving facts about the city will help you if you have doubts. There is also adynamic score (quiz) mode that contains one photo and 6 answer options with a 50/50 hint.

It is a really cool concept for a game where you guess the name of a city from the pictures shown to you, but there are some flaws: - the pictures are not the usual ones you see of very known places which is fine, but they are not all the best quality. - The UI is awful. - To get the Linux version of the game running I had to go in the folder and rename some files as they were named wrongly. The developers are aware of it but never bothered to fix it. - The price got increased in September 2024 from 3,50€ to 5,40€ for no apparent reason.6 found this helpful
It feels like a cheap Russian Unity game. There is something there to make it interesting but it never gets there. Yes, I want to learn about citits and identify them using facts and pictures. But it just does not work in the game. Also there are game mode which do not make sense. And if you are not up on your knowledge of former USSR states you will be googling a lot. That is the reason why I call it Russian. Also there is a focus on those cities. Furthermore the English reads like Russian translated to English using Google translate.
Warning: Asset Flip! "I was here" is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few online game assets and stock images, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
It's a crappy quiz game where you look at one of the photos the developer stole off the internet and guess what country it is. It would be more fun trying to guess which image hosting site the developer stole it from. You get two choices for which sets of photos you want to look at. Europe, or, guess which country... yeah, Russia. Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, the asset flipper stole a bunch…1 found this helpful
I thought I was fairly good at geography until I couldn't get past a single level on EASY mode without googling. I gave up after level 5 as it just wasn't enjoyable. Controls were frustrating as well. Trying to get rid of the journal to go back to take an obviously wrong guess was rage quit level of annoying. The achievements also give away the city names used in the game. Why wouldn't they make them hidden? Or not have an achievement for every.single. level and instead just have an overall easy mode completed etc. achievement. Would not recommend.1 found this helpful
Developed and published by Okinawa Sunrise, I was here offers a refreshing take on the puzzle genre by combining geography, travel, and visual observation into a relaxing educational experience. Instead of relying on action, combat, or traditional storytelling, the game invites players to identify real-world locations using a large collection of photographs captured throughout Europe, Russia, and the Caucasus. It embraces a simple concept that proves surprisingly engaging, rewarding curiosity and attention to detail rather than quick reflexes. The result is a niche but memorable title that feels equally suited for travel enthusiasts, geography fans, and players who simply enjoy discovering new places from the comfort of their own home. The heart of the experience lies in its collection of more than 500 photographs spanning over 60 cities. Each image serves as a puzzle, asking players to determine where it was taken by studying architectural styles, landscapes, monuments, street layouts, and other subtle environmental clues. While some locations feature recognizable landmarks, many photographs deliberately focus on lesser-known streets, neighborhoods, and scenic viewpoints, making …
