About Blind Boris

Blind Boris is a survival horror about a blind person. The character arrives to the hospice and 2 weeks later strange things start to happen. Staff disappears, terrible sounds are heard outside, exit doors are tightly locked but aggressive visitors enter the building.

Mechanics:
• The player sees what Boris knows, relying on smell, hearing and memory.
• Resources are limited, and they can be found by smell or specific sounds.
• The opponents are walking around the house, but the player does not know exactly where they are. Attacks are always sudden.
• Boris can defend himself, minimizing the damage.
• The game has a system for creating items from four resources.
• A player can make and use traps. Some will show the enemy for a short time, and some will stun him.
• When the enemy is trapped, he can be attacked directly.
• The main goal of the player is to get out of the house by opening five doors, so player have to explore hospice.
• Boris' memory is not stable and over time he will forget the architecture of the house, which will lead to the changes in locations.
• Boris takes meds to stabilize memory. Meds save the game.

The game shares the universe with the Line, however playing the Line is not necessary to understand the plot of Blind Boris.

Very interesting! I wouldn't really "recommend" this game to everyone as it doesn't have a typical appeal like story (I didn't understand a single thing about the plot), graphics (standard pixel art) or gameplay (incredibly buggy and unpolished). The only appeal that I can find is its weirdness. I personally quite like figuring stuff out for myself instead of being told and trust me, this game is happy to hide as many details as possible from the player. I spent 2/3 of my time restarting various times trying to understand the mechanics of this game and once it all "clicked" I breezed through the game from start to finish with no problems in one attempt, I even skipped a lot of items (optional ones like health and traps that help agaist hazards) since I already figured out how to reach the end. Basically this game is not complex, it has only a couple of simple rules. It's just that said rules are a little arbitrary and explained quite ambiguously but once you figure them out you're good to go. If I explained them you could essentially beat this game in 30 minutes or less so the meat of the game is mostly being in the dark trying to understand what's going on which is in the end …

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AT FULL PRICE! WAIT FOR SALES! I only give it a positive recommendation because region pricing and an 85% discount essentially gave it to me for roughly 0.40 USD, a laughable price and as much as the developers deserve. The Good:
.
The concept for this game is unique. You play as a blind man who must use his other senses to survive but as the player you are not blind - the juxtaposition of being horrified while the character is blissfully unaware makes the horror scenery more terrifying.
Good utilization of minimal graphics. The background art and its animation are pretty good for a pixel game and do their job well: a lack of detail makes for extra strangeness when you have objects floating around and being unable to tell the difference from demon and animal makes for a better scare.
Good sound design: minimal, lack of background music makes the scrapes and radio noise all the more potent. Especially given that sound is something used by the blind in place of sight.
The BAD: I'll try keep it minimal as I believe the facts speak for themselves. [olist]
This game has terrible art for the important things: being able to…

The game gives you no instructions and barely any context. Hadn't a clue what to do so I just stopped playing. Couldn't even figure out the controls or rules. Hard pass.

Blind Boris is a somewhat confusing 2D retro pixel side scrolling adventure game where you take on the role of a blind Russian man going to a clinic for treatment. Your visibility is limited, and not just because of the crap 2D retro pixel graphics, but at least this isn't an asset flip, and some work went into fleshing out the back end of the adventure game. It's a shame this wasn't coupled with any kind of intuitive design language, so anyone willing to look over the gaping technical flaws in the game to try play it will be sorely disappointed. Who knew, people who can't do video game graphics properly can't do the rest of video game development properly either. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the…

Got this game for cheap. The idea of the game is great, and it has interesting new mechanics but wow was it frustrating! I often found myself wandering the halls while Boris slowly lost it (and I did too). Only managed to get through with a tutorial from Youtube. Wouldn't really recommend, better off getting another game

Blind Boris, developed and published by Marginal Act, is an experimental survival horror title built around a striking and unsettling concept: you control a blind man trapped inside a mysterious hospice that gradually reveals itself to be anything but safe. Rather than relying on traditional horror conventions such as jump scares supported by clear visual information, the game constructs its tension around sensory deprivation, distorted perception, and psychological instability. It is less concerned with cinematic spectacle and more focused on immersing the player in vulnerability, confusion, and dread. The core premise immediately sets Blind Boris apart. You awaken in an unfamiliar hospice with no reliable visual clarity and only fragments of environmental information to guide you. Because Boris is blind, the world is not presented in a conventional way. Instead, environments are rendered through simplified pixel art and obscured visual cues that suggest shapes and layouts rather than clearly defining them. This abstraction is intentional, forcing players to rely on sound, memory, and careful experimentation to understand their surroundings. Doors creak, footsteps echo, and subtl…
