About Quiet as a Stone

✦ AI summary

Quiet as a Stone invites you to explore procedural dioramas in a world that has already ended, manipulating moss-covered ruins, placing trees and artifacts, and photographing ephemeral moments of beauty across an autumn landscape. This contemplative toy prioritizes atmospheric stillness and creative expression over progression, letting you craft, capture, and release each scene without pressure or management mechanics.

Moments of Calm in a Crumbling World

Drift into a world that has already ended, and find the beauty that remains. Quiet as a Stone is a slow-paced, atmospheric toy designed for those who wish to curate moments of stillness.Set against a backdrop of autumnal twilight and ancient history, you will explore small, procedural dioramas. From the moss on a fallen pillar to the crackle of a campfire, every element is yours to manipulate, photograph, and contemplate.

Accept transience and imperfection.

Observe: Watch the day turn to night, the weather shift from a crisp morning to rolling fog, the light casts across weathered stone, rain falls and the petrichor rises.Interact: Click to slash through overgrowth, mine ancient stones for magic gems, and discover hidden artifacts. There is no rush. The stones have waited centuries; they can wait for you.Create: Use your gathered gems to place trees, ruins, and foliage. Transform a barren rock into a shrine. Create, Photograph then let go.

Even at the cheap price, I simply can't recommend this game. It looks really nice in the beginning, until you realize each scenery is pretty much the same. The exploration mechanics get boring really fast, you're forced to do a ton of mindless clicking and you only get a tiny amount of control over the area. The inability to save your game takes away whatever remaining joy this might have brought - you can't go back and admire your old areas or move on to new areas; you're forced to replay the same starting areas over and over again. I love relaxing slow-paced games, but this just doesn't work.

A zen sandbox builder. Create a floating island landscape with a relaxing visual and audio ambiance, take pictures of your completed creation. There are no saving, and each instance is totally random. Some islands are 'meh' and don't have much to build with, but if you're lucky enough to find yourself with a grass stone (cutting down grass has random drops of building items) your palette is endless. Think along the lines of an HD Etch-A-Sketch but random fantasy-themed elements.

I love any 'game' where I'm free to discover what I can do at my own pace and in my own time. Quiet as a Stone puts me in mind of something like Cloud Gardens, another favorite. Both titles aren't so much games as they are experiences which ask you to relax and take a deep breath, to be willing to indulge your creative side, and to simply spend some time in these beautiful little worlds. This is such a serene experience, and somehow gives one the feeling that you're engaged in making art of some sort. It's peaceful, pretty, melancholy, and a wonderful way to get back to yourself and calm yourself after you've had a long day that maybe wasn't as good as it could have been. I genuinely love this game a ton and I rec it to everyone I know. It's funny--there are apps out there like Calm or Headspace which are meant to relax you and get you in a meditative frame of mind, and they're okay for a lot of people, I'm not knocking them. Speaking just for myself, I'd much rather have an hour and a half or two spent in this world, leisurely rearranging my rocks and trees, planting grass, smashing and collecting my gems, looking at the fire, and taking some pretty pictures. The time a…

Quiet as a Stone is a quietly distinctive creative sandbox that resists nearly every conventional expectation of what a game should demand from its player. Developed by Richard Whitelock and published by Distant Lantern Studios Ltd, it presents itself less as a goal-oriented experience and more as a contemplative digital space, inviting curiosity, patience, and personal expression. From the moment you step into its gentle environments, it becomes clear that the game is not interested in winning conditions, optimization, or challenge; instead, it offers a calm framework where exploration and creation are ends in themselves. The core experience revolves around wandering through serene landscapes and collecting natural materials such as stones, grass, crystals, and small artifacts. These elements are not treated as resources in a traditional sense, but as creative tools meant to be arranged, stacked, and composed into miniature scenes or larger environmental statements. Players can shape quiet gardens, symbolic structures, or abstract arrangements, guided entirely by their own aesthetic instincts. There is no imposed structure or progression system dictating what should be built or h…

Pretty relaxing way to unwind with a glass of wine after a hard day at work. Interesting puzzle that are gentle on the mind.

Love the concept and the calm vibes, its very beautiful and relaxing! I do wish there were more variation in landscapes though, I imagine it gets same'y quite fast. Different climates and plants would have been fun! It is also much too dark, with no way to adjust the lighting up (as far as I can tell). Sometimes I cant see whats going on at all, its literally just pitch black, lol. There are also some minor issues, like street lamps cant be picked up again once you place them.
