Vectronom

Vectronom surprised me! I saw that it was a rhythm game but I hadn't expected the puzzle element at all. In each level you have to adapt to the rhythm, and then discern how it correlates to the pattern of tile movements and determine how you can safely move through the level. That's fun! It feels so fluid once you've figured out the right movement pattern and smoothly weave through a chaotic dance of disappearing tiles. It took me just over 5 hours to 100% the game, so it's a quick game and best to get on sale. The hardest achievements were for getting all the different badges on each level, but the levels are all very short so it's not too punishing even when you have to start over for the First Try badge (the hardest of the three.) I recommend this game to rhythm game lovers, completionists, and musical puzzle solvers.

Vectronom is a psychedelic rhythm-based puzzle platformer where you must navigate a cube through an ever-changing geometric world that shifts and transforms in perfect sync with the beat of the electronic soundtrack. The game has vibrant, flashing colors and psychedelic visual style combined with a thumping electronic soundtrack that creates an immersive, trance-like state. The core mechanic (the level geometry itself changes to the beat) is intuitive and satisfying. Sometimes the isometric perspective and intense color palettes can create optical illusions, making it difficult to judge depth or landing spots, leading to unfair deaths. The later levels require rote memorization of patterns through trial-and-error rather than pure rhythmic skill, which can become frustrating and less puzzle-y. Overall, Vectronom is a short but incredibly stylish audiovisual experience, if you are a fan of rhythm games and electronic music. While its occasional visual clutter prevents it from being perfect, the satisfaction of nailing a difficult level in perfect sync with the beat is a unique thrill that justifies the ride.

This game is really underrated. Its a very different type of rhythm game where you have to learn the pattern and get in the rhythm. Too bad I'm super bad at the last few levels. That's more of my short coming than it being on the game tho. Still recommended

BEST TIP: Use wired headphones/speakers or just your computer speakers, any lag will make a fun game very frustrating :) Always a chill game to pick up and play over the years. The soundtrack still pops into my head when i see the art for the game. Great community created levels and a very filling "story" mode set of levels to play through. Levels start off pretty straightforward but by the end you'll be counting 3's, 4's, and 5's on loop sneaking in jumps between the beats. Local multiplayer built into each level as an easy drop in/ drop out format.
