About Trash TV

Welcome to the world of Trash TV. Cast away into a recycling center, you play an outdated tube television animated to life with a singular goal – find your remote control and become fully functional again. Navigate through the perilous pathways of the recycling factory, avoid machines set out to flatten and pulverize you into scrap parts, and pick up various weapons of wicked destruction to solve puzzles through explosive solutions and to use against haywire machines.

A finalist of Intel’s Level Up 2011 game development contest, Trash TV’s addicting action and clever puzzle design is coupled with a haunting background brilliantly set by the chilling ambient tunes. Thematic visuals with a “fuzzy” screen style and static transitions completes the retro video charm. Each of the six different locations will have different puzzles to decipher and obstacles to maneuver through, with the solutions usually involving one of eight lethal weapons. From double uzis that blast through crates, C4 explosives to trigger floor panels, to the rocket launcher that can blast your TV character across the screen through “rocket jumping” techniques, the tricky puzzles in Trash TV will often require a careful yet explosive solution.

Key Features

  • Weapon Solutions: Take control of eight powerful weapons ranging from pistols, paired Uzi machineguns, shotguns, and rocket launchers to solve clever puzzles. Oh, and of course – blow $#!% up.
  • Six Locations to Explore: Traverse six different areas, each with their own devious traps, obstacles and enemies.
  • Explosive Puzzle Solving: Use your arsenal of weaponry in a myriad of ways to get through tough obstacles, devious traps, and malfunctioning machines.
  • Thematic Visuals: Stylized visuals to match the tube television main character, bars n' tone screens, and static noise transitions.
  • Ambient Soundtrack: A chilling ambient soundscape adds to the "machine graveyard" background of the recycling factory levels.

[h1] One of those atmospheric puzzle platformers, where you play as... TV! Great level design which actually makes you wanna play one more screen (syndrome). Music is kind of ambient but makes up for mood. Game is somewhat gloomy, not your colorful and sparkling platformer. Solving puzzles reward with brain cells production and progress makes you curious of how the game will end. For more immersion I recommend to play this one at night. Overall good puzzle platformer. A fantastic little platformer with clever level design and a little bit of heart. A trashed TV must find it's remote and escape the trash heap. Controls are tight, difficulty isn't very high, and it has some pretty interesting visuals. Well worth a playthrough.

It's okay. TIGsource freeware platformer circa 2008. It was alright. The only reason I rated this down is because I don't think it's really worth buying unless you're seriously starved for puzzle-platformers, and as far as that genre goes this one is pretty simple with very easy puzzles, so I'm not sure it will sate the genre likers out there.

Trash TV, developed by Lawrence Russell and published by Reverb Triple XP, is a curious and inventive indie platformer that takes a discarded relic of the past and breathes new life into it. The player assumes control of a sentient CRT television that awakens in a grim recycling plant, surrounded by heaps of broken electronics and industrial refuse. The TV’s singular goal is simple yet oddly endearing—to recover its lost remote control and restore itself to full functionality. From this modest premise, the game builds a darkly humorous journey through conveyor belts, compactors, and mechanical death traps, weaving platforming precision with puzzle-solving ingenuity. It is a story told almost entirely through atmosphere and environment, where the silence of the scrapyard says more than words could. From the first moment, Trash TV establishes a distinctive identity with its visual and thematic style. The environments are drenched in mechanical gloom, rendered with muted industrial tones punctuated by glowing screens and flickering lights. The game’s protagonist—an old, boxy TV set—feels both nostalgic and melancholic, a relic of the past now fighting to survive in a world that has m…

Usually not a fan of platformers in general, but this one was decent and the short comedic factor of playing as a television unit. Definitely wait for a sale though, full price feels a little steep for about 1-2 hours of gameplay.

Trash TV is a short snack-like experience. It has a good mixture of puzzles, platforming and combat which is contained in an charming visual style. It feels a bit like one of those games that came from nowhere and nobody played before it returned to nowhere, which is a shame because I'd say it's a good experience and somewhat graceful in it's simple gameyness. It's lacking in frills and pretensions and what you see what you get. In some ways it is almost difficult to talk about because of how pared down the design is. Watching the trailer tells you everything about the game and while it's perhaps lacking in surprises it is a good example of a simple idea well executed. It won't change your life, but most things don't and that doesn't make them any less worth enjoying. Just as how with food sometimes all we want is a PB&J at home - sometimes we want a simple game to kill a few hours. Trash TV delivers a solidly satisfying PB&J.
