Orbital Racer

Fast ships and flashy visuals can’t hide how shallow this game actually is. The controls never felt right, and all the tracks started blending together after about an hour. It has its moments, but there’s just not enough depth here to make it worth sticking around.

Orbital Racer is a distinctive space racing game that combines the excitement of high-speed competition with the unusual challenges of controlling a spacecraft in three-dimensional environments. Developed by Paweł Dywelski and published by Feel Good Games, the title takes the basic idea of racing and moves it away from roads, conventional circuits, and planetary surfaces. Instead, players compete in spacecraft around locations inspired by the Solar System, where momentum and freedom of movement fundamentally change how racing works. It is an interesting concept that gives the game an identity separate from most futuristic racers. One of Orbital Racer's strongest features is the presence of two different gameplay approaches. Action mode provides the more accessible side of the experience, emphasizing speed, competition, and combat. Players can collect and use weapons such as missiles and mines, allowing them to interfere with opponents rather than relying exclusively on piloting ability. I liked this game a lot, but the campaign gets corrupted if you exit from the program mid-race, not great after several hours of time invested.....

Felt a little too repetitive, and the boost being so powerful, makes it feel like you are nerfing yourself if you buy any upgrade other than that one, to maximize your chances of rolling it again, ends up making the game also feel quite easy. Rating: 23/32

Now this is pod racing! This game is fun, but I do have to temper the expectations: the game has bit of jank. For instance, the list of bugs: 1. You sometimes do not get your powerups 2. The mouse is not captured in the screen of the game, so if you are playing windowed or have multiple monitors, your mouse will/may click outside of the game application. Activating the powerups can only be activated via mouse controls if you are keyboard+mouse. 3. The tutorial talks about various powerups, but all you will get are the missiles or nothing. The enemy ships will have full access to all powerups. 4. If an enemy ship right next to you has missiles, you cannot dodge or decoy out of it. It is cool just to drive around in space. There is a career mode where you can get certain bonuses depending on how well you do in your career. Or you can just have a singular race separate from the career campaign. Nonetheless, there could be improvements: 1. Add more variation to the maps. Given that we are in space, most of it is just darkness; given that there are only a few maps, the maps could have the various artifacts found in space. 2. Allow more mapping to the keyboard.
