The Charnel House Trilogy follows three interconnected characters—Madeleine, Harold, and Alex—through a nightmarish train journey to Augur Peak where dark secrets and unsettling mysteries unravel across one fateful night. This narrative adventure trilogy combines psychological horror with puzzle-solving gameplay, featuring a stellar voice cast and atmospheric presentation that pulls you deep into an unsettling tale of terror and wonder.

A train's whistle sounds in the dead of night. Snow falls on deserted tracks. Somewhere, in the city, a woman prepares to leave on a journey that will change her life. Somewhere, in the country, a man drives to his final destination.

Witness The Charnel House Trilogy, the chronicle of one fateful night aboard a train bound for Augur Peak. Three thrilling, horrifying adventure games in one, from the depths of the Sepulchre, starring Madeleine Roux, Peter Willington, Jonathan Grier, Jim Sterling, and Ben Chandler as Grub. With art by Ivan Ulyanov and Ben Chandler, and music by Jack de Quidt, nervous_testpilot and Bryan Henderson.

A young woman prepares to depart on a journey that will take her into the very heart of darkness. But before she can leave her apartment, there are just a few loose ends she has to tie up...

Join Doctor Harold Lang on that fateful train journey that started it all. Who is the man in 2-C? What is the conductor hiding? And just what is the secret behind all the huge bags?

Alex Davenport wakes up on the train. Her travelling companion, Harold Lang, is nowhere to be found. Don, the conductor, isn't exactly being forthcoming as to what's going on. Why are Alex's friends here? Who's the ballerina? Is this a nightmare, or is Alex's hope of waking up simply a pipe dream?

From the studio that brought you Richard & Alice comes a new journey into terror.

✦ AI summary

Players praise the pixel art style, voice acting, and psychological horror writing that effectively builds tension and dread, with particular appreciation for the protagonist's characterization. However, they consistently criticize the game for being disappointingly short with misleading marketing about its "trilogy" structure, feeling more like three brief chapters than three full episodes, along with an abrupt ending that leaves major plot threads unresolved and unclear. Opinions split on the story itself—some find it clever and memorable while others think it's confusing and tries too hard

Extremely unlikable protagonist, uninteresting and unlikable other characters, story is all over the place and the game tries to be a lot more clever than it actually is, much like the protaganist. The constant profanity is also painfully awkward and I'm no puritan by any measure. Didn't care one bit for this.

The Charnel House Trilogy doesn’t hit as much as Richard & Alice. In fact, it sometimes feels unfinished and makes the same mistake as the studio's previous title: focusing on one character and leaving the other in the void. The two protagonists, Alex and Dr. Lang, meet when they’re about to board a train, and things take a strange turn from there. The game could be classified as psychological horror, and it mostly revolves around Alex and her not-so-distant past. She discovers some disturbing facts about her neighbour Rob and her ex Gavin through mysterious means, and Dr. Lang simply discovers the train is actually a form of purgatory. The gameplay elements are not as strong as the previous game, and there is only one ending. Although it’s called a trilogy, it’s actually three short episodes that could be completed in 2 hours. There’s also voice acting, but its necessity is questionable. The only redeeming quality has been the atmosphere for me.
TL;DR
An underwhelming entry compared to Richard & Alice. It explores the idea of purgatory, but makes the same mistake as the previous game by focusing on one character and leaving the other one mostly to the playe…

Short and creepy point and click game that I enjoyed quite a bit. I wish there was a sequel, the build up was perfect and really had me ready to dive further into the story. But still, a fun little ride to enjoy a nice horror story.

I first played this game back in 2016. I finished all the achievements in 2025, and I wrighting this review in 2026. This is a short little game, but the story is twisted and brutal. Pretty graphics great music and a really memorable and likable main protagonist. After all these years, and I still find myself thinking about this game. Good game.

A somewhat reluctant recommandation for a well written short psychological horror point and click. --- TCHT is made of three parts, where you play alternatively Alex and Doctor Lang moving through a more and more confusing and horrifying mix of reality and dillusions. The hook of the game is its spooky ghost narration, told through the intertwined stories of the two protagonists. We get a glimpse of the worst nightmares they had or have to face, and the writing is really good at ramping up the stakes and the horrific implications of each new NPC dialogue. That being said, the game, each part in their own way, kind of feels...in media res, while also never seeming to care to address that fact. The characters name drop places and people that seem to make a lot of sense to them, like the author of an in diegesis book series, the island that they're supposed to reach in the Gloria train. When the name droping is in service of forshadowing, or reveals a character later, no offense; but half the time, it feels more like you're playing the middle part of a franchise, and you have no context to understand what is what. --- Other than that, not a whole lot to say: visually, the game i…
