Blasten!!

If you're looking for a challenging retro platformer, look no further than Blasten!! More than just a Mega Man parody or clone, it offers classic 2D difficulty along with fun writing and creative stage design. Perhaps a bit too challenging for some (me), thankfully there's a more forgiving casual mode that lets you experience the full game while still offering a rewarding playthrough.

A great throwback to those difficult pixel adventures of old! Run through levels as a well-intentioned simpleton of a robot trying to clean up messes for an eccentric cast of characters, including your quippy grump of a creator. Definitely a lot of heart in this game, and I'm looking forward to anything else this crew comes up with!

If you're the type of gamer who loves taking on platformers with overtuned mechanics that are wholly stacked against the player, Blasten! is for you. A nice homage to the Megaman games of the past, the fast-paced gameplay will have you constantly on your toes because no two runs are the same.

This scratched an itch of just sitting back and enjoying blasten through a side scroller. I love how unserious the story is so far too. The game played smoothly and had no issues running on CachyOS which is a bonus! I think I will attempt to use controller next time as the control scheme was kind of funny to use. I think an option to be able to adjust the controlls would be a great addition (I looked for only about 20 seconds, so sorry if I missed it). Overall it was a great experience playing what I have so far! I look forward to seeing any future updates or new titles come out.

Awesome art and music, solid 8 bit platforming. The writing is self-aware and fun. Difficulty is appropriately hard (not easy but rewarding when you figure out enemy patterns). Happily recommend to anyone looking for a classic platform shooter that you can jump into without too much thought.

Super cool sprite art and animations. Classic SNES feel and difficulty. Very challenging! Boss patterns are a little hard to recognize, so it'll take a few tries but very satisfying to beat, especially with that hilarious ending. Very thankful for the casual difficulty as my reflexes aren't what they used to be. Great power-ups too, and interesting feature of having 2 to choose from after beating bosses. If you're a fan of retro gaming definitely give this a shot!
