Freedom Finger

[i]Freedom Finger[/i] is a series of gimmicks one on top of the other: it's a horizontal shmup where the ship is hand-shaped and can turn into a punch to smash stuff or grab enemies to use them as alternate weapons and/or shields. It's also completely hand-drawn and the enemies move to the beat of the soundtrack: pretty much every stage is synced to the song associated to it. But it is any good? Well, yes, but with a few issues. Let's see: [b]Pros[/b]: + Eclectic collection of songs in the soundtrack: there's indie rock, hip hop, synthwave and many other genres, so anyone can find something they like. + When they say "bats%!* shooter" they're not lying: nice variety of bizarre stages, including the innards of a giant space monster, a spaceship looking like a haunted castle from the inside, fighting as a sperm cell or playing a fake 8-bit video game. One stage where we fight giant bugs and common animals could even be a reference to [i]Apidya[/i]. + Branching paths (e.g. whether or not you spare certain bosses) to guarantee some variety in the gameplay. + Grabbing and throwing enemies gives different scoring opportunities than just shooting all the time, also lets us destroy multip…

This game freaking rules! I bought it to play something on-theme for American Independence Day, not expecting much more than some cheap laughs and a way to kill some time, and this game FAR exceeded my expectations. The soundtrack is AWESOME. The game mechanics consider all the ways a a hand could be used in a bullet hell, which I found really unique. The dialogue is actually really funny. And I was shocked when I found out there are even branching storylines! This game deserves more attention!!!

I really really like the story of the game. It's so funny, just the right humor for me. My mistake with the game was that I was playing on normie difficulty and if you are not used to those type of games I recommend you to lower the difficulty, it will save you time and you won't be annoyed. The music in game is top notch. I recommended this game to 2 people, gifted it to 1 and another one liked it when he was watching me play it. If I have to rate it out of 10, I would say 6. P.S, I was disappointed from the fact that it has more than 1 ending and it ended a lot earlier than it's the other ending of the game.

Great music (found myself singing a certain tune in my head many times), fun and challenging gameplay, great voice acting... just a very fun throwback to classic space shooters. Recommend it for sure

Played this game on the switch and now on the steam deck. It’s a must have for anyone who enjoys shmups. Fantastic fun great sense of humour throughout and every level is fun and challenging but not so difficult that you can’t complete it. The only downside is you’ll have to download and install a patch in order to get the cut scenes on the steam deck but this is easy to do if you haven’t already installed it.
