About Napoleon in Russia
Napoleons Invasion of Russia began on 24 June 1812 when the Grande Armée crossed the Neman River to engage and attempt to defeat the Russian army. The Grande Armée was massive, with over 600,000 troops. The French army initially advanced rapidly into Russia, winning a number of minor engagements and even a major battle at Smolensk in August. But in the end the Russian army always managed to slip away, until finally there was the great battle of, and French victory at, the Battle of Borodino, at the Gates of Moscow. But this was not enough. The French army was ultimately defeated by the vastness of the country and by the dreadful Russian Winter. By the end of 1812 the French Army was in retreat and would be destroyed on its long march home.
Napoleon in Russia recreates 5 historical battles from the doomed Invasion of Russia. There are also non-historical skirmish engagements included.

I played this for more than 10 hours before reviewed. Play system is firm and has a good feel to it. Easy to play, difficult to dominate. AI is good to tough. Solid game with some minor imbalances, but I will and have played it again and again. If its on sale, really consider getting it.5 found this helpful
+ Good old fashioned hex game. - Lacks the flavour of Russian battles. Could have been the their American Civil War game in different uniforms. Having just played their Waterloo game, I expected a big battle (eg Borodino), but all there were was some minor actions. If Borodino was too big it could have been several smaller scenarios.3 found this helpful
Great little game, no having to 'build your empire' like other games. Straight into troop deployment and battle and it's not always about destroying the enemy. Tactics can win you the game.3 found this helpful

When on sale, like many of the Hexwar games this one is worthwhile because although there may be no Achievements (and if you are looking or expecting them where none need exist, don't buy because you're not purchasing the game, merely the medals without earning them), there are many times the battles you should fight between difficulty levels of "Casual" play and "Hard", with "Historical" settings in between on both sides to make each scenario and campaign more interesting and exciting. Hexwar seems to have learned from the daft "flat" AI they created during the early American Civil War games of the last decade, and now you should be challenged across the campaigns with much replay value, even if you have to come back after a ragequit as I have so many times just to see if you can smash that Corsican upstart, or sort out the reactionary Alex I. It's entirely up to you.
This is miniatures without the need for large spaces. I enjoys the ease of play and yet the need for well thought out movements.
