✦ AI summary

Hello, Goodbye is an unhinged visual novel that blends spy thriller elements with slice-of-life romance, featuring solid writing and localization alongside an eclectic, sometimes absurd plot that rewards not overthinking it. Players praise the engaging worldbuilding, attractive character art, excellent soundtrack, and emotional character development, though they note the spy subplot feels underdeveloped compared to the romance focus and that some routes seem incomplete.

Hello, Goodbye is unhinged. The writing and plot are solely dictated by rule of cool. An H Scene will just start in an active warzone because it's an h-game. The TL and localization are pretty solid quality for the most part, but there are some moments with some pretty bad typos/text formatting slip-up. It is a fun experience but wow does this require the reader to really thread the needle on suspension of disbelief. It's a wild ride that generally benefits from not thinking too hard about it, but also requires thought and investment into political intrigue - which is a really tough balance to ask of a reader. Basically the story is a lot more light hearted than it seems. This is definitely a VN you recommend to a friend who is already into VNs and wants something more eclectic. The music is great (Natsume's theme is S+), you get 3 pretty great love stories and an underlying mystery that gets resolved in a mostly silly love story in an underwhelming, bizarre (but cool) manner. A lot of hilarious moments. Has some interesting themes about love, identity, and fate, too. update: As time goes on, this is one of my absolute favorite VNs I've ever played. The music is just so fantast…

Let me go over the positives first: - The worldbuilding is interesting - The prologue is interesting - The music is good - The artstyle (for the heroines) is good - I don't have issues with the translation or the characters themselves. And onto my overall issues with the game, Hello Goodbye is, first and foremost, a slice-of-life romance with a spy subplot in it. This by itself is *not* a big negative, I did enjoy Riddle Joker after all. Though unlike Riddle Joker where the spy subplot is just half-baked and underwhelming, this one is... bad. I don't really know how to describe why it is bad, I think it's probably because all the interesting characterization and worldbuilding are there, buried in glossary infodumps, but none of that is used in the story at all. And most importantly, the romance/fluff writing isn't good enough to supplant the subplot issue like Riddle Joker did (to me). Other less glaring negatives I can immediately recall include: - Heroine routes are very, very repetitive. You can especially feel it in this game because the plot and route structure really beg a multiple route mystery (There is no multiple route mystery) - Body proportions of the MC is comically …

Ya I'd recommend this one. I still think about it years later. My main complaint is that one of the routs seemed unfinished. Other than that, I like the story, characters, art style, h-scenes (from the site), and especially the soundtrack. This probably has my favorite soundtrack of any vn I've played so at least give it a listen.

Hello, Goodbye is a visual novel developed by Lump of Sugar and published by NekoNyan Ltd that blends romance, mystery, and political intrigue into a story that gradually shifts from covert operations to deeply personal relationships. At first glance, the game presents itself as a tale about espionage and hidden agendas, but over time it reveals a much stronger emphasis on emotional storytelling, character development, and the quiet moments that shape meaningful human connections. Rather than relying on constant tension or dramatic twists alone, it builds its appeal through atmosphere, dialogue, and the evolving relationships between its cast. The story follows Toubu Kaito, a young intelligence operative sent undercover into Tenshudo Academy located within Morino, a special district carrying political significance and fragile social balance. His mission initially appears straightforward: infiltrate the school, gather information, and fulfill his assigned objectives while concealing his true identity. However, life inside the academy quickly complicates his plans. Everyday interactions with classmates begin to blur the line between professional responsibility and personal attachmen…
