Gene Rain: Wind Tower is a cover-based third-person shooter with solid shooting mechanics and decent optimization, but it suffers from a confusing story hampered by poor English translation, extremely short length, and excessive difficulty imbalance that makes it too easy. Technical issues plague the experience, including language settings resetting to Chinese and mission objectives not triggering properly, though some players find it entertainingly bad enough to justify a few dollars during a sale.
«Birdemic» of third-person shooters. Way too easy, way too short (see that playtime? I've completed main story and quite a few of side missions), story is incomprehensible but quite fun due to very poor English translation. Couldn't recommend spending more that few bucks on it just for so bad it's good kind of experience. Also this isn't the same game as PS4 Gene Rain. Game resets back to Chinese after every restart.15 found this helpful
<-- Review written for 3 Point Play -->
Gene Rain: Wind Tower is a game that we should discuss. I've played like 1 hour since it was released, and even if you may not consider that much time, I have to mention that first impressions when it comes to games, specially on Steam, are really important, once again, considering the fact that games can be refunded when you have up to two hours of playtime; while we received this game on our Curator, this could be interesting to you, as a potential buyer and player. Well, let's begin. << Overview >> Gene Rain: Wind Tower is a chinese-developed cover-based third-person shooter with a fairly unique setting in which the humanity is struggling against something called the "Genetic Rain", which affects humans but not mechanical life-beings. Among the humans, the rich, powerful people, are able to get themselves a mechanical heart, but this, in the other hand, being really expensive, makes it impossible for the people in the lower social strats. In this game, you play as Alex, a member of the resistance fighting against the robots in order to bring attention to his cause…11 found this helpful
I am 100% going to beat this entire game, but for now I want to write a review that will actually help you guys, Instead of this dude who left an entire novel for you above me...(wtf...) The shooting mechanics are amazing, the movement is amazing, the story board is amazing... Things are really well done, the developers spent a lot of time to make sure the game works and is highly optimized. There is a chinese voice over with english subtitles..you follow your missions, you destroy enemies..and you beat the game as if it's like a Halo...seriously, like a chinese version of halo (but not a knock off, just a comparison) There is really nothing more to say about this game, it's great and worth the price trust me... I had my eye on this game for a while. I like to collect anything that resembles Gears of War because I'm a big fan of Third Person Shooters, especially tactical-cover ones that remind me of "Kill.Switch" (the game that started the TPS genre). Anyways, come to find out, you cannot purchase the DLCs on Steam (they're only available for purchase on the Xbox store and for the Xbox version exclusively). I don't know why they're even on the Steam store if there's no price for them (and it's not like one of those titles where it's included but says "N/A". No, instead it says "available content" instead of "content has been added, etc."). The feel of the game is very meh. You'll have more fun with Earth Defense Force. English language is supposed to be in this version but apparently this one is Chinese only (even with the Google Translator app, I was unable to find the menu that allows me to change the language, if there is one at all). All in all, getting a refund. I'm more disappointed that I didn't get a good experience out of this because the story, setting, and art seem alright (and even arguably cool). Oh, well. Good luck to the Developer. They have a good vision. Their game just …3 found this helpful
Gene Rain: Wind Tower is a game made by aliens who only heard a vague description of what a 3rd person shooter is. It is a technical mess. First I had the dig around the game files and change a file called "English.xml" to "Chinese.xml" to make the game even display English text. Though that did not help much. Cover is still referenced as bunker and turrets become machine gun towers. So you can imagine that the plot is completely unintelligible. Then there are problems such as you have to run up the stairs because walking them is impossible, mission completed flags not triggering, the map screen navigation being an utter nightmare etc. It is not completely bad game, as shooting robots felt somewhat fun at times. And the environments had a weird dreamlike quality in them. Possibly a nightmarelike quality. While it is fascinating to see that someone thought that this was ok to release as a commercial product, I can't recommend buying it, even in a sale. There are just too many more fun games out there. Functional games, even. 2/53 found this helpful
