About The Big Con

✦ AI summary

The Big Con is a '90s road trip adventure where you play as Ali, a teenage con artist swindling strangers across America to save your family's video store from loan sharks. Master the art of grifting through pickpocketing, disguises, and elaborate cons while navigating a wacky, nostalgia-soaked version of 1990s America filled with plaid, payphones, and plenty of moral choices about who deserves to be conned.

Hustle and grift your way across America in the ‘90s as a teenage con artist on a crime-filled road trip adventure.

Play as Ali, a curious and sarcastic high schooler who ditches band camp to go on a cross-country road trip. But this isn’t a joyride! Ali is on an all-important mission to save her family video store from the nasty loan sharks trying to shut their shop down.

Swindle strangers, pickpocket people, and con commoners across a wacky America of the ‘90s. And – it should go without saying – lie to your mom about all of it. Choose who deserves to be conned and who might need a helping hand. The world is your oyster (and hey, pearls are worth a lot!).

One Con Doesn’t Fool All

Con people your way! Wear disguises, sneak around, eavesdrop on conversations, and learn how to approach each mark. Maybe you think you can make enough cheddar just by pickpocketing. Or seek out more complex grifts that involve breaking and entering, smooth talking, and more. It’s up to you to outsmart everyone and lockpick everything that stands between you and saving your mom's video store.

A Coming-of-Age Comedy

If there’s one surefire way to discover yourself, it’s by setting out on an adventure. Luckily for you, you’ve got the aid of an expert grifter to coach you in the elusive art of charm. But a life of crime is no laughing matter! Not unless you turn on the laugh track and make it a criminally funny sitcom. Get ready to talk your way into deals, hearts, and trouble. And don’t forget to call home every once in a while to check in with your mom. Sure, you might argue with her sometimes (most of the time?), but you’re a teenager - that’s kind of your job!

The Weird and Wack 1990s the Way You Remember Them

Whether you were a ‘90s kid or not, this game is brimming with nostalgia. It offers you the perfect opportunity to relive your own awkward high school years, or if you sadly missed out on the ‘90s, finally experience all of the classic teen movies that feel so old and outdated. Plaid, payphones, VHS tapes, and malls – THE BIG CON has got all of the outrageous fads you remember (and some you want to forget) from the 1990s.

But most importantly – you can ride the Hormipillar as much as you want!

✦ AI summary

The Big Con draws praise for its charming art style, colorful aesthetic, and upbeat music, though players are divided on the core gameplay—some find it repetitive and boring, while others enjoy the experience enough to complete it multiple times. The game features decent humor and a short campaign with decent content, but the dialogue presentation and gameplay loop receive criticism for lacking depth and variety. Players seem to recommend it as a casual, lower-stakes purchase rather than a must-buy experience.

Lame, bland and soy. Very repetitive and unimaginative gameplay. Stupid annoying voiceover of some irrelevant lines. Acidic visuals. A bit of funny jokes, though

I've 100%d this game, and in my opinion, it's pretty good, though not without its flaws. (It also has a EULA for some reason. Like ???????) The music is nice, especially on the second lap of Las Venganza, and I like how you get remixes of the area theme when you enter shops. The art's cute, although the way the dialogues are handled visually leaves much to be desired: having characters speak to each other with only one of them being on screen at a time and with a random coloured background sure was a choice. I'd much rather have preferred a regular VN approach, or at least SOME semblance of interaction between the characters and/or the world outside the conversation. The achievements are pretty easy to get. I was only missing a couple when I've done my second lap of the game to get all of them. That being said, you do need a guide open for them, cause some are trickily missable when you're playing casually. Like, why would I assume that pulling the lever on the train and getting all my money taken away is the correct move? Or why is the final Film Buff step talking to a booth? Whateverrrr. Not even gonna talk about the Rad Skater achievements. Like, the game's practically ASKIN…

The concept is fun, the aesthetic is apealing but I got bored by the gameplay quickly. Didn't finish the game.
