About Sunblaze

✦ AI summary

Sunblaze is a hand-crafted precision platformer where you guide Josie through a rogue superhero training simulator packed with puzzles, obstacles, and deadly challenges—all while accompanied by a trusty cat sidekick. Its ever-shifting gauntlet of brain-teasing levels and punishing platforming difficulty is balanced by customizable accessibility features, making it a rewarding test of skill that keeps you hooked for hours.

”Whose blood is that on the walls?” -Josie

Josie is up for a challenge. Her dad, a retired superhero, has fixed his superhero training simulator and lets Josie go in there to play around a bit. After all, show us a parent who wouldn't want to train their daughter to be a superhero? But then suddenly the training room goes rogue, and... Josie is up for a challenge.

In this tough, hand-crafted precision platformer, you’ll play as Josie, aka. Sunblaze, with a mission to complete your superhero training. The training room is full of puzzles, brain-tickling challenges, obstacles, TNT, spikes, drones... And a purrfect sidekick: the cat. You have got a cat. What else do you need?

Well, skills. That’s what you need. The ever-changing training room keeps on bringing you challenge after challenge, and you'll stay glued up on your controller for hours.

Being a parent is hard, but most likely not this hard

Ok, all the parents who have not lost their kids in a mall or other crowd ever, raise your hands? It's all good, at least you didn't lose them in a hostile superhero simulator full of lasers, evil bots, spikes, and... Well, go and see for yourself!

WARNING: Playing Sunblaze may cause massive brain growth

You know, to survive all the levels, your brain needs to do some work. We know, we know, it might sound scary, but like Aristotle said: "It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.", and Quentin Tarantino put it even better: "Violence is one of the most fun things to watch."

Oh, are you still reading? Go and get playing right now! We will promise you one thing: dying over 5000 times on one game has never felt this good.

(P.S. Dying is 100% optional, the already easy controls and gameplay can be customized with accessibility features to meet your own needs and wants.)

Sunblaze (SB) fit that bill, so I chose it on that basis alone. From the trailers, it was kind of hard to determine if the levels would actually be that difficult, or if navigating around the obstacles would come second nature. Despite having played so many platformers, I didn't inherently find the direction needed to get around that obvious. More often than not, I'd need a few deaths to try and figure out what the right solution was.
Gameplay
Initially, it looks as if levels will change based on how the previous one was designed. For example, as you do a double jump to reach the upper right corner and finish the level, that becomes the new starting point, and the layout restructures around how the obstacles were originally set up. I kind of thought that was the angle of this virtual training course, and wh…

Sunblaze is a neat puzzle platformer. I suppose it doesn't compare with the likes of Celeste when it comes to gameplay depth and presentation, but this game is perfectly fine. The game also has a decent amount content: 6 chapters, with a harder version for each of them, and a bonus chapter. There's also an easy mode for those who would prefer a gentler experience.

After this game's completion I can say I'm surprised. It was fantastic. Really similar to Celeste (I'm pretty sure it's the main source of inspiration) but with a few differences here and there. You can only jump and double-jump and dash. You can only dash sideways. There's no wall-jump. Takes a bit to get used to it as 90% of platformers have wall-jumping but once you get the hang of it it's pretty satisfying. The story is divided in chapters with, each, a certain amount of tiny levels. There's a hard mode that takes the mechanics from the story chapters and adds new ones to make harder (much harder) levels. However, they are really short (Only 12 levels) and are really fast to clear in a row (2-3 minutes) Music is fantastic and pretty addicting (Especially chapter 3's imo). Achievements wise is pretty good. I loved the deathless hard mode achievements, even if they are easier than the story mode ones lol

Nice Platformer. Had an awesome time with it. If you Like Celeste, give it a try.

This game is full of bugs that make what could've been a fun game into a frustrating mess. The ledges sometimes don't work, and there's a bug that makes your dash end instantly. It seemed so fun but the bugs made me not want to continue
