About sun-rise.exe

A fever dream on a hot summer's day. Adventure through bizarre and intricately made levels in this 2D platformer game heavily inspired by old creepypastas such as godzilla.exe, 'the (coronation day), and surreal biblical horror.

Quite a few people complaining about their skill issue in the reviews

its just too hard. at first its nice, but it just keeps going and going. so repetitive with the hardest levels with barely any checkpoints, you spend 5 minutes on a slow platform trying to dodge a thousand bullets, and then you die and respawn at the start. I like the graphics but its too hard and drove me crazy.

Very fun and unique way to convey a message, such granular details like the sprite beginning to bleed overtime and less health made it difficult but also jaw dropping and unique. I am dealing with a lot of hitbox problems, though, either skill issue or it just keeps killing me even when I'm not touching anything.

RAHHHH I LOVE SURREAL INDIE HORROR The game was surprisingly fun to play for how janky it was, but the most noteworthy thing about it by far is the art direction, which is truly unique and as unsettling as it is fascinating. The monologue at the end was both saddening and heartwarming. Lots of love <3

Searching for the term "platformer" on Steam gives you over 17,000 results... there's thousands and thousands of garbage tier platformers infesting Steam. "sun-rise.exe" fits right into that category of retro 2D shovelware glutting the Steam store. Only a tiny number of those are any good, and this isn't one of them. This is a badly made Unity platformer that's trying to push the limits of pretentiousness by being more "art" than game... the precision platforming gameplay takes a back seat to the narrative and hideously, comically bad "art". The platforming genre is pretty much obsolete... just a tiny number of professionally developed platformers exist on PC and offer any real value or interest to gamers (Silksong, etc). This is nowhere near being as good as Hollow Knight or Silksong. Even without a price tag, it's easy to see why gamers ignored this in favor of modern, professionally developed 3D games. This is offering nothing new or interesting, so it's easy to see why this failed. Trying to address serious issues such as mental and emotional health through the medium of video games is misguided and can be harmful. While it's plausible to suggest the intention was nobl…

i love everything about this game, the art is unlike any ive ever seen, the unique way the story progression ties into the end goal of every level, the enemy sprites, the level themes the design of the main character, and the tale of suffering from the creator all come together to make this game one of the most unique games ive ever seen, in my personal opinion, i would like to see this game adapted into a short film. much love to you louis morel ❤️
