"Dark Souls for kids" -> Agreed. You will have to pay to save. Every single time. Puzzles have no explanations. If you died after collecting a bunch of stuff/opening chests and doing a puzzle and before you PAID to save? You will have to do it all over again... But let's face it: you'll be doing the same area/ opening and collecting the same things so much, that you can write a guide on it. The game might look good... But it ain't smooth in its controls. Also... It may not be fully translated. So make sure you have knowledge in both English AND Russian. Otherwise... Oops.

Potata: fairy flower is a colorful 2D puzzle-platforming adventure that favors atmosphere, exploration, and thoughtful environmental challenges over complicated mechanics. Developed and published by Potata Company, it follows a young witch named Potata on a journey through an enchanted forest where a seemingly personal problem develops into a much larger adventure. The game has the welcoming appearance of an illustrated fairy tale, but beneath that gentle presentation are platforming hazards, puzzles, enemies, secrets, and boss encounters that give the journey a respectable amount of variety. Its hand-drawn visual direction is easily one of the highlights. Forest environments are filled with oversized plants, unusual creatures, magical scenery, and richly illustrated backgrounds. The artistic style gives the world a distinctive personality without depending on realistic graphics or elaborate visual effects. There is an appealing storybook quality to nearly every location, making exploration enjoyable even during quieter stretches. Badly designed platform, with clunky story. Worst of all is that it isn't completely localized and the transition scenes had the naming still in Russian. I would have requested a refund but I bought the game on whim a year ago and thus the 14 day refund was not an option.

Potata is a cute puzzle platformer that is pleasant to play. I liked the variety of platforming and solving actual puzzles, though I'm aware there will be others who don't like having puzzles in their games. The soundtrack is lovely and the characters can be quite charming. It has a few flaws I can think of: 1. There are some typo or grammar mistakes with the English version 2. The transition/loading screens to the next areas are left in Russian except for the village one 3. The background story/lore is kind of thrown throughout the game through notes randomly 4. The ending or last levels felt slightly rushed The typo and English ones happen sometimes but not too often. What's said is often clear. The transition screens are only black screens with the names of the areas. You're not missing any other info. The third flaw felt a bit weird. No matter where you went, you saw notes scattered everywhere about the villagers. How did the notes end up in such dangerous areas? I did enjoy reading them for the most part. The fourth flaw is a bit personal perhaps. The ending felt sudden. It felt like there could have been more levels or a better way to end the game? All of the flaws menti…

The art on this game is really beautiful. The only thing I didn't quite liked is that the potata's art is completely different from the style of the rest of the game and NPCs. Maybe they simplified it so the animations were easier to make. The story is really basic. You destroy a flower, by mistake (?), and have to go around looking for it's petals. Nice short game for those looking for something simple to play. Beware of the spiky flying thing, it will probably make you go nuts.
