Wood Brothers Flying Colours

Simple but effective VR Multiplayer experience to play with friends. Have played this with 8 people and it's fun to fly in formation or hide at altitude and swoop down on the enemy. Flight model is really good and trying to figure out whether to take a low fuel load for speed or a high fuel load for endurance (which both have penalties) adds a degree of difficulty. The game is in early access so features are still being released but it's got the beginnings of a great game.

Fun little game that is very early in its development. At the time of writing you can only play with your friends on steam as there is no match making so wait out if you don't have anyone to play with. I know one of the developers from this 2 man team and I'm looking forward to seeing what the game grows into, if you are expecting a fully fleshed out title then give this a miss and wait till it has more content but if you want to support small dev team on their first steps to making VR games then this is for you.

If you're a flight sim enthusiast, go for it! When it comes to the flight mechanisms it feels very natural and realistic (I suspect there's much work done in the aviation physics model). The graphics are not those of a AAA game's but this is hardly the point of this game anyway. I don't own a VR kit myself in order to try it out, but I was told this would amplify the experience even more, so if you've got a decent VR setup don't hesitate to give it a go. You can take off, fly around, fire your gun, drop bombs below you and eventually land to refuel (being realistic, landing takes a bit of practice you have to kind of play around with the engine's on/off control). There is a multiplayer option available and you can either host or join a game that was hosted by one of your friends (must be "online" on steam chat). Each player picks a team (currently red/blue) and an airplane model, depending on that they spawn on different bases and can fly towards each other to engage in combat. You don't always have to resort to violence though, you can equally just fly around, enjoy the scenery and practice your taking off/landing skills! Lovely little game. Can play with steam friends or in public sessions. Not very popular at the time of writing as the game is pretty new, but this would be a good game to hang out with people in. Very simple game, but the simplicity is what makes it so great. Blue team and red team spawn on opposing airfields, kills and deaths are counted, and nothing else. The rounds never end, so you just jump in and play until you decide you're finished. I usually play this game just to fly around. The map has interesting features spread evenly, and it's fun to just fly around it. As an IRL pilot, I can say that the flight model is very good and accurate. The core concepts are all simulated very well.

‘Wood Brothers Flying Colours’ is supposed to be an online-only dogfighting game in which you get to pick team red or team blue and fight it out with another WW1 fighter plane. But in reality, there is no-one else to play against unless you get a friend to download it as well. Then there is the VERY basic graphics, the poor sound effects and the terrible gameplay to contend with. For some reason, the plane will just stop flying and drop out of the sky! The only thing I was thinking about when I was flying about shooting at nothing was where on earth my money had gone! This is not a game I can recommend right now, but maybe with a little more work and a much lower price, it will be worth a revisit.
