Warplanes: Air Corp

Well well well... If there is a better simcade for VR, I am still to see it. It has everything you need. Various planes and helis with their weapon systems and specs, engaging gameplay, nice decorations. I definitely wouldn't mind a coherent story, though its absence does not take away the fun factor, which the games has plenty of. For those who like it, there are some well designed visual customization options. Overall, cannot recommend it enough for such a price.

All in all the game is fine. It has a slow start, especially when you come from VTOL VR, but when you play more, it opens up when it comes to missions and the aircraft you have. There is just one small, yet major problem I have, which is why I give this game a thumbs down: The enemies are too frigging passive and pacifists. In all those hours that I've played the game, the only enemies that have actively attacked me are helicopters and SAM vehicles. Everything else is basically a sitting duck. Jets just fly around without attacking you, ships won't use their missiles on you and ground vehicles only start shooting at you when you basically sit on top of them. Oh, and speaking of ground vehicles, most of the time they just sit there and won't move at all, even if you hammer them with machine gun fire. This is results in the game being piss easy. Even in defensive or escort missions, the enemy will barely engage with the target you are supposed to attack. And that is on missions the game rates as Hard. And it's a shame, because it could be a nice game. It has it quirks of course, like helicopter controls being somewhat arkward, that your home base is on a separate instance and lan…

This game is damn fun! I've been playing it via link on a Quest 1 with the ThrustMaster T.Flight HOTAS One, and though the outdated hardware's resolution could be better, (fingers crossed for the Steam Frame this year), it is an absolutely fantastic blast of a time! I can't fly in real life due to color blindness, but this makes me happy enough I suppose. The only feature I'd like to see in future updates and titles from this developer would be the option to customize the colors of specific HUD elements. Over time I've gotten used to slight movements in my peripheral in combination with whatever is happening on the map when I remember to switch to it, but if I could get a few things to appear in a hue of blue instead of green or whatever color it is...against a backdrop of a grassy hill, that'd be just dandy! Any top level/whole console type color correction straight up sucks, so I'll stick to my learned understanding of whatever is happening on screen/in headset as opposed to the entire experience looking like a weird interpretation of a strange dream. The only VR Flight Cockpit game tried so far that works with HMD + Xbox Controller out of the box. No hand tracking and no keyboard / mouse to operate the plane. Everything just works as expected.
