About Equin 2: The Warren Peace

When an evil wizard writes a 6000-page book to bore the townspeople to death, it's up to you to take the damn thing and return it FROM WHENCE IT CAME.

Dive back into the roguelike world of Equin: It's rabbit warriors vs evil enemies in a challenging traditional roguelike! Specially-designed to not need a MENSA membership to figure out. Fight monsters, not the controls!

FEATURES

 • Holy cow, a roguelike that's an actual roguelike??!: Permadeath, Tile-Based / Turn-Based movement, randomized dungeons. Huzzah!
 • Easy to learn control scheme: One of the things that keeps me from playing traditional roguelikes very much are the complex keys to figure out. In Equin: The Warren Peace, every action is tied to a context menu that pulls up by pressing the Space Bar. Near a well and next to a door? Press space to have the option to either drink the well water, fill an empty bottle, or enter the building. No more 1,000,000 keyboard possibilities. "Fight monsters, not the controls!"
 • Four classes that play differently: Warriors can use two handed weapons and excel with all armor and shields, but are very weak vs. magic. Thieves can use inspect chests for mimics or steal from shops. Wizards cast offensive magic and can convert unwanted items into XP to help them grow. Clerics are holy champions who excel fighting undead enemies, making them REGULAR dead enemies.
 • Your adventure takes you through a swampy temple, arid desert, undead crypt, frozen prison, magical forest, and the wizard's tower. Discover special event rooms, powerful statues, treasure chests, deadly traps, and devious monsters along the way.
 • Battle enemies in GLORIOUS 1st person combat: Gain fighting options depending on what you're holding- Slash with swords, bash with shields, chant magic from books, stab with knives and more. Manage your stamina like a pro or equip the "The Warren Peace" book to help you.
 • Fight boss enemies at the end of each area to get a special key that opens the vault for great rewards. Or don't and take the escape ladder out instead- it's up to you.
 • Special floor events can spice things up: Rain, Darkness, Anti-Magic, Time Bombs, Firestorms, Jailbreaks and more!
 • Colorful graphics, with hundreds of equipment pieces that show up on your guy while worn: Never have to guess what your character is wearing again! If he's using a huge battleaxe and wearing heavy iron armor then that's what he'll look like on the screen.
 • Original OST: A soundtrack featuring drums, bass, keyboards, guitar, and thankfully no singing this time!

UPDATE 1/10/22: The developer has been making some consistent updates - see the comments on this review for more! Equin 2 is a bit of a mixed bag: it presents an interesting new twist on the traditional roguelike genre, but I fear that it simultaneously makes a few tragic missteps that invoke some frustration along the way. It feels largely familiar: grid-based maps, turn-based movement, and randomized dungeons. However, combat is delivered via a traditional menu-style turn-based system on a separate screen. Combat is serviceable - you'll have 4-6 skills to use at any given time, so there's not a surplus of depth here. The fundamentals feel nice enough, but I feel there's room for improvement in two key areas: 1. RNG and difficulty spikes come absolutely out of nowhere, blind-siding the player. I had multiple runs in which I was progressing nicely, not having particular difficulty with any enemy, and was then suddenly thrust into battle with a new enemy which effectively killed me in one hit. It just felt very unnatural and unfair in a way that I couldn't have been prepared for. 2. The joy of finding loot is largely diminished here - there aren't many randomized drops, so search…

This game is a lot of fun and is clearly an all-round improvement from the first game, it is easy to learn and has a good amount of depth below the surface. The balancing of certain items could be improved, and when playing as a wizard if you pick the ice spell the rest of the game becomes rather easy. It also seems like money is a little too easy to get as I rarely found myself needing more of it, and the punishment for running out of food is perhaps not as severe as it should be (considering your food level is reset every area). Also some more options (like the ability to change sound and music volume separately) would be appreciated. But overall the game is really good and a definite recommend considering how low the price is.
Fans of Tradition Roguelikes will be right at home with this game!
What I really like about Equin 2: The Warren Peace is its an awesome traditional roguelike that is very easy to get into but hard to master. If you've played the first Equin, you'll be blown away at the amount of new features and content this game offers, definitely one of the best sequels to a game I've ever played! It's created by a single dev that basically did it all, even the music and is a super kind dude that definitely deserves the love & support too. At first glance, you might think not a whole lot is going on but let me tell you this game is has a lot of depth to it! Starting out, things are relatively easy and straight forward but as you get further in and start leveling up, you'll be presented with profound choices in terms of build creation and how you setup your character. Pair that with the many weapons/equipment you can find, there's a lot of different strategies to explore. There's item sets now too so that really adds some flavor to your runs too. This game is surprisingly tough and you'll die often although the game is light-hearted and your deaths won't feel as bad because of it. Sp…

Serviceable indie roguelike, although it suffers from QoL and unfair difficulty spikes. + Five characters with stat differences and some seperate gimmicks (such as wizard scrapping items to gain xp) + Fairly simple to play but requires knowledge to beat successfully + Random floor effects add some replayability (such as level having a lot of water) * Music is alright - Lots of "gotcha!" moments where you fight a new enemy or interact with a new event only to get effectively killed instantly because you had no idea what to expect. Lots of trial and error before one reaches the first victory - Very RNG heavy. You might get an amazing item in the very first floor or you might get it three zones later. You can end up gaining nothing useful which may just end your run outright - No way to rebind, stuck moving with arrow keys - There's two resolution options, didn't find a way to full screen (no 1920x1080 either) - No controller support - No cloud save Overall I was invested enough to beat the game once with the Warrior, but I don't see myself returning to this one, sadly. However, I know some people are into this type of game, so trust your own judgement. There is a demo on…
