Nice idea but too much jank when exploring, constant fetch quests, and combat that really isn't combat. I can see the appeal for some but I was hoping for a bit more.

100% Complete | 4.5h at review Wavetale is a cute little 3D platformer with some pleasing aesthetics. The platforming isn't challenging or frustrating, and the combat is basic, but neither really gets in the way of the experience. The story is simple but charming, and there's something quite relaxing about exploring the colourful flooded world. It's not a particularly long game, taking me around 4 hours, so any repetition is generally rendered moot before it has a chance to become a problem. The 100% is essentially just completing the game with a few additional side ventures along the way. All in all, a good little pick-up if you're after something relaxing that doesn't ask too much of you.

Wavetale is a short, heartwarming journey from start to finish. The platforming is very enjoyable, especially when you hit the flowstate riding the waves to your next town. Be aware this is not a combat-focused game, it's there, but it's simplicity keeps the focus of the game in its exploration. The music is absolute CINEMA and I appreciated how perfectly placed it was in the most crucial moments. The strength of Wavetale is Sigrid's coming-of-age story as she explores Strandville and it's history, and her commitment to save her community from a new calamity. This is a real indie gem. I can't wait to see what Thunderful do in their next game.
