Yooka-Laylee

I think the worst thing a game can be is tedious, and that's the single word I'd use for Yooka-Laylee. It asks for your patience, and then takes you to the grindstone over the most menial of tasks, it's a literal death by a thousand cuts. It'll rip the camera from you during sections where you need depth perception, it's the idiosyncrasies of being told to "not use this scream ability near broken glass" only to find the broken glass you're given 5 minutes later is broken with a different ability, the list goes on. They were given 20 years of feedback that Kazooie > Tooie but [i]insist[/i] that all we needed was another game to see its brilliance is nothing but hubris. It's all the same mistakes people said they'd made but now with a different cast of characters.

Don't buy this version even on a discount! The re-release of this game (Yooka-Replaylee) has a excellent layer of polish that makes this version a janky eyesore.

didnt quite live up to the hyoe, but still a good day

Was a huge fan of Banjo Kazooie back in the day so I was looking forward to this. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The art style is great but the gameplay feels very tedious. Hopefully the remaster is better as they did change a lot of things, but the original version is not for me.

A fun trip down memory lane. Doesn't quite hit the highs of the source material, but it is executed with tons of charm and competence. Honestly, one of the best colourful cartoon platformers on Steam.

Honestly, it felt like the game didn't need a remaster, it just needed updated QoL and TLC. But, way too late to the party anyway. Regardless. a fun homage to Banjo-Kazooie! The worlds are much less memorable, along with the hub being fairly boring, and too much backtracking. Obviously, buy the rerelease if interested.
