Genuinely hate the level of tedium this game presents. Collectathon, sure. But Yikes... I keep trying to enjoy this game, I really do, but the open design coupled with the deep necessity of buying upgrades is SO exhausting. I don't mind doubling-back in platformers once I have an upgrade, but the open design leaves me feeling frustrated when I encounter something that "needs an upgrade" I don't have.

Pros

+Nice art style and presentation
Cons

-Worlds feel too large and empty
-Doesn’t really feel engaging
Comments Yooka-Laylee is an open world platformer that has a decent start. The first part of the opening world was alright, but once I unlocked the second half, it felt like it was easy to get lost, especially without a map. Once I moved onto the second world, it felt large and there seemed to be a lot of empty areas. At this point, I lost interest since the game didn’t feel engaging or fun. Overall, I don’t recommend this game. There’s a remake of this game called Yooka-Replaylee, which seems to have better reviews compared to this version. While I haven’t played the remake, that game might be worth taking a look at over this one.

It's an enjoyable 3d platformer collectathon. The movement is a little clunky in places, but overall design is competent. I've recently played the remake of this and think this is probably the more fun version, especially if you're into sequence breaking and/or speedrunning. All the hours are from me and my friend speedrunning and playing bingo using a randomizer.

Yooka-Laylee appeals to nostalgia by mimicking Banjo-Kazooie, but ultimately this just invites unflattering comparisons. If you're feeling nostalgic for Banjo-Kazooie, go replay Banjo-Kazooie. (It holds up amazingly well.) Yooka-Laylee's bland and tedious level designs are not really worth the time.
