About Blade and Burden

Blade and Burden is a rogue lite dungeon crawler where choices aren't as simple as they seem. Play as adventurers who slash, roll, and solve their way through an absurd palace while subjected to the whims of a mysterious observer. Will you break the cycle and remove your burden?

Choose Your Hero:
Different adventurers have been called to the tower, each with their own burdens they carry. Choose which story to follow and fight your way through the challenges using the special abilities each one possesses.
Defeat Your Foes:
Each hero's path is plagued by monsters, cursed duelists, and deceitful tricksters. Overcome these foes to complete your purpose.
Discover Secrets: Make your way through the palace and find new items to unlock, new comrades to join your team, and secrets of the past.

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's art style, music, and retro-inspired gameplay mechanics, though some find it genuinely enjoyable while others appreciate the nostalgic challenge. The main complaints center on poor control implementation—unintuitive default key bindings (like Tab to attack), broken gamepad support despite claims of compatibility, and lack of button remapping options—alongside the absence of a tutorial to help new players understand mechanics. Several reviewers suggest that addressing these control and onboarding issues could transform the game from frustrating to genuinely fun.

I cant express in words how terrible this game is. The controls are so bad and dont make sense. Who makes a game where you use the tab key to attack? It acts like the gamepad can be used but in fact it cant. The mouse only works sometimes and the keyboard works but decides to make the screen go nuts occasionally....just dont use the Enter key. If the dev used common sense and made the controls intuitive, put in gamepad support, allowed rebinding of buttons/keys, and made a full tutorial....it may work. Otherwise...the game is either released by a very inexperienced developer way too early, a quick cash grab/scam, or an attempt to troll players. IF this is a real honest attempt at a game, I am afraid that the developer may need to reroll his career choice. Refunded

I'm newer to PC gaming and trying to expand beyond being a Nintendo only gamer so this one took me a sec to figure out but I love the music and Phil is my spirit animal. Would love to see proper controller support tho :)

I adore this game's art and sound design. The retro-style gameplay and mechanics provide equal servings of nostalgia and old-school frustration. I'll definitely need to shake off a lot of rust and spend a good amount of time practicing in order to beat this one.

Fun game, but takes a little bit of time to figure out what the mechanics are without a tutorial.

I love this game. As a beta-tester for the mac build, Gear Shift Studios has been communicative and helpful in enabling me to play this game with a bug free experience. Great game design and I am also a huge fan of the soundtrack!
