….what did you expect? The Path of Blades is a free to play Steam game whose marketing and title screen are plastered with AI art. like ...what did I even expect? I don't know, I guess I was hoping for something a little more. For one thing, it's a retro style first person fantasy action dungeon crawler, a very specific genre that I happen to be a big fan of. And two.. uhhm, there's no two. that's the reason why I downloaded it. I got it for free and came with no expectations, and I still feel disappointed. sorry. Hey there, epic fantasy fans! listen to this epic narrative; it will knock you off your feet. You see, there's this nameless heroine trapped in a dungeon, and she finds a sword and a shield, and then, uhm, she explores the dungeon, and tries to escape
.....that's it.
It's a simple premise, yes, but that's enough to get the game going. The exploration part kind of drags a bit, not only due to the intentional graphic limitations (which I'll get to later), but also the fact that there's really not much to explore. There are n…

That's not a good idea, sadly, you can't cross Die by the Sword and Dark Souls : split-second reaction asks for clear visibility while retro hack-and-slash asks for fun and gore. I suggest you go one way or another.

Not bad, not great... i see potential (assuming this is only a prototype/demo/proof of concept). A few things I noticed that could do well here: * The levels are to open i feel like this game could use a more confined/claustrophobic feel * The retro filter needs a option to turn it down - its hard to make out what is what * I suggest going for only first-person or a very tight third-person view the current third-person view you can get the camera to break the level boundary. I started in third-person and when i switched to first-person the game IMHO was MUCH nicer (and that is coming from some one that is NOT a first-person fan) Don't let the reviews get you down - keep on trucking.

I love retro games, but this one is visually irritating. The screen is cluttered and it's hard to make out what's going on most of the time. It really needs a cleaner, more readable display to be enjoyable.
