✦ AI summary

Players praise Frebbventure as a refreshingly creative platformer that stands out from typical indie games through its four distinct playable characters that fundamentally change how you approach each stage, varied level design, charming art style, and clear passion in its construction. Common complaints mention the jankiness, sometimes annoying audio, meandering dialogue, and occasional story nonsense, though most players consider these minor quirks that don't detract from the overall experience and consider the game excellent value for the money.

Very good janky platformer with a lot of unique characters that substantially change how you approach each stage. If you want a run and gun, choose the doctor. If you want to fly everywhere, choose the blue water sheep thing. I’m always tired of every indie thing trying to be precision platformer or a metroidvania, so Frebbventure was a real treat. Clunky and full of variety from start to finish, each stage and boss challenge introduces something unique. The dialogue goes on for a while, similar to Freedom Planet, but I liked the art and cinematic close ups peppered throughout the experience. The characters being pissed off nihilists and hot opossums really helped. The 75% off sale price is totally worth the hours you get out of this one. I finished the main scenario without unlocking anything or trying any challenge modes in just under 6 hours, which is a great value for how lovingly crafted the experience is.

This is great! A really nicely put together platforming adventure, the level challenges add great extra depth and having a blast so far! The unlock after getting all the challenges in the first world is wild, for a solo dev this is great! Really enjoying this. My only complaint is the handling of the screen - with an ultrawide full screen mode just horribly stretches and it's not possible to put the game in a 16:9 container, I have to manually pull out the screen to an acceptable aspect ratio which isn't brilliant.

Got this game on a whim when i randomly discovered it on steam. It kind of reminded me of old dos/amiga/Sega games i played as a kid. The game packs an incredible amount of gameplay into it, with levels that play like games from different genres, four playable characters that play entirely different from one another, and equipment that changes the playstyle or even move set of the characters giving even more variations on game play. Even if its a bit janky at times and the story can seem like nonsense and the music and sounds can be kind of annoying i can tell this game was made whit passion

I wish steam reviews had a neutral rating, because I don't think that the game is all that bad, it's just really not my thing. The game's controls feel way too floaty and it feels like The Cat With The Att over here doesn't go where the player wants him to. Or this might just be my skill issue, idk. Coupled with how the character gifs feel too janky and how on the map screen arrows drag your character along the lines rather than conveniently snap them to a new level, it seems like more focus was put here on the story, character interactions and cutscenes animated by dragging sprites around. And while the latter are cool by default from a technical perspective, I'd like to highlight just what kind of "Y2K mascot attitude" you should expect from this game in the year 2023:

The blue reindeer, who's supposed to be "the vegan one" (off to a great start), drops the act by bestiary entry two,
with bird bone marrow being her weakness.

The bestiary is called the Freakopedia.
If you didn't look at the game's Steam page, Frebb's partner is a redneck possum who's name and mouth a…

Now THIS is a video game! I write this review hot on the heels of finishing the true ending to the game, and let me just say, what a freakin' RIDE man. The gameplay was tight, the story exceeded my expectations (even if it was a little batty near the end there), and the whole thing is a treat for the eyes. I could hardly recommend this game more, and Almy, I'll keep an eye out for your future work. You impressed me, and I'm looking forward to being impressed again.
