Back Rank Chess is addictive and challenging at the same time, making it a perfect option for chess lovers. It is visually appealing and does not have too many hidden secrets. Despite its simple commands, the challenge is still prominent, and I must admit that I spent a good amount of time on some levels, but it was not a stressful experience. The game has a considerable number of levels that progressively increase in difficulty, which is great for practicing strategies. The price is fair, and it is definitely worth it. I highly recommend it.5 found this helpful
Quick Take:
For just a euro, "Back Rank Chess" is a cool little gem. It's remind me a lot of the pawns and rooks endgames with an interesting twist , but man, they could've done so much more with it.
Gameplay:
You're basically trying to get your pawns to the other side of the board or stop the opponent's pawns from getting to yours. Simple, right? It's a fresh take, but it kind of drops the ball by not going far enough. Most of the time you're up against just pawns with a piece or two on your side. Where's the challenge in that?
Look and Sound:
Graphics are fine—nothing flashy but they get the job done. Don't expect much from the sound though, it's pretty bare-bones.
How's it Run?
Runs well, no complaints. The AI's mostly good but has its dumb moments. It sometimes feels like it gives up too easily, which is a letdown when you're looking for a challenge. I think it's the same problem that you can encounter with stockfish where in some losing endgame , he just rolls up and dies.
Pros and Cons:

Pros:

Excellent way to discover/train pawns endgames.
Help work on some calculation/visualisation
Killer price p…1 found this helpful
I find it fun when I play the game occasionally and when I don't pressure myself into beating the level quickly. Use the two hints when you feel like it and stop playing when it's no longer fun. There are 60 levels, this gave me weeks of casual play, completing a few levels a week.1 found this helpful
This game is a hidden gem! It's so fun to play. The design is clean and intuitive. It works for all levels whether you are beginners that try to get into the game or advanced players who love some challenges.1 found this helpful
